In my case, I knew that Trump had been a Democrat up to 2009, and I remembered in the time leading up to the 2016 election, Trump had shown support for a so-called "assault weapon" ban, and he touted the virtues of Canada's single payer health system.

THEN during the 2016 campaign, Trump campaigned as being against single payer health, and not for a so-called "assault weapon" ban anymore.
SO I left the race blank (none of the above) on the ballot in 2016 because I KNEW what Hillary would do, and had NO IDEA what Trump would do.

ONCE Trump was in office, and I got to see his actual policies, I became SOLIDLY for him and voted for him in 2020, and I will again in 2024.
