Joe McCarthy was a danger to America.

History is written to make McCarthy a danger to America and most believe he was. However SOME of his suspected communist sympathizers were found to actually be communist sympathizers. Some of these were in politics and some were in the film industry. Those must be fertile ground for subversive communist and socialist types. His problem was he went way overboard and named way too many people, should have stuck with the real anti-American ones only.

Tail Gunner Joe named people in the State Department who were Commies. He is blamed for the House Un-American Activities Committee actions (Hollywood blacklist) which was a standing committee until 1975...however, since Joe was a Senator he had nothing whatsoever to do with the House committee.

Since he was right though, it was imperative that the commies protect themselves and burn his career down.

And the rest? The people, who with government backing, were ultimately innocent and had their lives torn asunder? What crime has an American citizen that worked in the film industry, or is a homosexual, committed that the wheels of government are justified in rolling over them? Private citizens should not be terrorized based on their political beliefs or sexual orientation by government. At least not in the United States.

I'd question you use of the word "right." How right was he? Out of the people he named, what percentage were actually Communists?
If I accused 100 people of being anti-semites, and 5 of that 100 are actual anti-semites, does that make me right, or does that make me a person who's throwing crap against a wall hoping it will stick to someone.

Based on... an investigation he neither started or sought to begin? Are you saying the 13 Russians he charged were innocent? Or maybe you mean that the other people that were charged, didn't actually commit the crimes they are charged with. Or maybe you mean the people being investigated shouldn't be, because you have access to top secret information that Mueller and his team have.

Not really, there were never any connections made to those McCarthy sought to expose and the USSR. They simply held a political ideology that was unpopular. I would hope that Americans would recognize how very dangerous that is.

I thought it was 205... then 81... then 57....? And I hadn't heard that those "exposed" were actual Soviet agents. Do you mean Communists, or do you actually mean they were agents working for the Soviets. If the latter is true, I'd like a link if you have one.
