Baldguy, Any chance you have anyone "farming/raising" deer in the area? It could possible be a farm raised deer that got out also. Lots of Amish raise deer up here in the north. Just an idea.
Our local C.O. called again today to tell me that there isn't anyone within the surrounding county's that has a licence to raise deer. So my best guess is that someone had a licence in the past and decided not to renew it and let the deer go. I saw her the morning before I took her and she didn't act like a tame deer. She came in about 60 yards out and knew something wasn't right. The wind was swirling and her nose went into the air for a minute or so before backing out the way she came. She never spooked, but you could tell she didn't like the situation.
I know of one person on the opposite side of the county that let his licence expire and let his does go free, but none were tagged.
