:-( Im with you, but as a nation... there is a we. What affects one affects another. The country as a whole needs a wakeup call. The only way that will happen is if we are... how do you say this.. made to feel uncomfortable? Most people get so used to being complacent and are very happy to just "ride the wave". Well when you do that things happen without you. (not you but you as in people). It's not fair but society MUST pull up the bootstraps and go to work. We have to cut programs, spending, and raise some taxes or else I don't see an end to it. Even if it wasn't YOUR fault, OR mine the only way I see a realistic solution is one that affects rich and poor alike... and it needs to be a little tighter, and hopefully more people of your opinion can help by voting and making a difference for OUR future.
Thanks,
Matthew
If this is how you feel, you are more than welcome to start by paying some extra taxes this year.
Hello,
Yes sir, and likely I will. As much as that sucks I am prepared to do so. There were many bipartisan panels that said we needed to do all these things.. Please how can we fix it without bringing in more money, and spending less at the same time? That debt number... its HUGE.
Thanks,
Matthew
You're going to pay extra taxes?
Really?
No, seriously, you're going to pay extra taxes?
I think we all could see a small spike soon yes.. If I was asked to pay more I would. I think they need to do what Plinker said right above. You know it used to be in this country that if we wanted a War we had a war tax, and if we wanted something out of the ordinary we had a TEMPORARY tax to pay for it. That way if you wanted something done you damn well made sure you had money for it, and the people were ok paying for it. Set the GDP rate, force a balanced budget, and temporarily raise taxes to get us where we need to be. Yes I would pay a little more to see that happen.

There is no such thing as a temporary tax increase.

How do you make a contribution to reduce the debt?
There are two ways for you to make a contribution to reduce the debt:
You can make a contribution online either by credit card, checking or savings account at Pay.gov
You can write a check payable to the Bureau of the Public Debt, and in the memo section, notate that it's a Gift to reduce the Debt Held by the Public. Mail your check to:
Attn Dept G
Bureau of the Public Debt

What did you do to get so much neg rep? Weren't you in the green just the other day?The R's won't be able to help themselves. The decisions that have to be made will not be popular among the "government benefit" addicted. And they will have willing accomplices in the media and among the progressives to demonize the mean old, draconian, racist, homophobic, children starving, grandma killing, old white men. They won't be able to take the heat, I'm afraid, and will melt faster than an ice cream cone on an August day.
Well, then I wish they'd hurry the hell up. The entrenchment is a big part of the problem because it's created an historical bias for one single party and against the other single party. All those SS-collecting blue hairs driving their big Buicks and Cadilacs probably don't really agree with the current platform of the Republican party. But because it's an "R," they see nothing but what they think it is.If the GOP caves in, they may as well disband.
So if I had a tomato, an orange, and some egg whites for breakfast, then added a side of bourbon on the rocks, I'd be taking care of my health!?
There is no such thing as a temporary tax increase.
Hells yes!! I'm sure there are some anti-oxidants in that bourbon somewhere too. That's another plus.
A drink a day keeps the doctor away.
If you add your Federal, State, social security, medicare, property, excise, license plate, utility, sales, capital gains, highway and any other tax they may dream up, the government is already taking 62% of your pay anyway. That is a totally correct statement. When making over $100,000 a year, you only get to spend less than $38,000 of it. Been there, done that, ten or twelve years in a row. I kept track of every dime I paid in tax back in the 90's, and that is how it came out. I am sure it is worse now.
Maybe it is time for the socialists to quit giving away money, and make everyone work. We shouldn't have one blade of un mowed grass or one piece of trash laying loose in the whole country. If you want welfare, show up to the work crew at 8:00 AM
In some famous book it is written: "If a man worketh not, neither shall he eat". Sounds right to me.
I'm willing to pay a slightly higher rate for taxes IF AND ONLY IF there are drastic reductions in spending. I'm talking a true, non-fuzzy math $600B cuts (at least) with laws put into place to ensure that the annual budget does not exceed a certain % of GDP (I'm not sure of that %, maybe 5%). Oh, and everyone better pay their damn share, including the lower 50% that get more back in tax 'returns' than they pay in. We must get this deficit under control in our generation.
