I imagine it isn't easy to run electric and plumbing through them for individual residences.I wonder what makes it cost prohibitive ? It has to be the red tape and greasing palms because those buildings are just wide open blank canvases. Done a lot of interior demo in them and they don’t have any support walls or anything… high ceilings…. Seems like an easy decision with rent prices and availability

Chicago also has some pretty strict rules around how things have to be done, which increases costs.
Actually the city already did it and authorized the conversion of 3, possibly 4 commercial building into residential towers, I believe all are north of the river. They need to do that south of the river too. But it has already happened. And there is pressure to do more.Like that is going to happen.
