I wonder what makes it cost prohibitive ? It has to be the red tape and greasing palms because those buildings are just wide open blank canvases. Done a lot of interior demo in them and they don’t have any support walls or anything… high ceilings…. Seems like an easy decision with rent prices and availability

I imagine it isn't easy to run electric and plumbing through them for individual residences.

Chicago also has some pretty strict rules around how things have to be done, which increases costs.

Would think the ceilings are high enough to run a ceiling or floor chase.

Well started my new job today, first as an Engineer. The onboarding process was bad, no one had my password, and I got bounced around to different help desks several times before someone could actually just reset the password and give it to me. And by me I mean my manager who then had to give it to me, lol. Gotta love offshore helpdesks.

Actually the city already did it and authorized the conversion of 3, possibly 4 commercial building into residential towers, I believe all are north of the river. They need to do that south of the river too. But it has already happened. And there is pressure to do more.
And they were fast? Having three or four approved is not proof there was less red tape involved.

Well, had a burnt out turn signal for a week. The bulbs have been on the passenger seat, waiting.
Finally today, I'm thinking, now's a good time.
I pull the assembly out, and it starts working.
    WTF?
So I shake it, it's still running.
Put it back in, close the hatch... turn signal stops.

    Ugh.
Take it apart again, it works.
Shake it, bend it, move it around.. no problems.
    Put it back in.
    Close the hatch.
    Still working.

    I HATE intermittent problems.
    I HATE THEM.

    Now we'll see what happens.
Couldn't find any breaks in the wire. Maybe it was just stretched.

Then, time to work on the leaking sunroof.
    Probably plugged up drains.
Get my weed whip cable out, and run it down the drains.
It seems like it's been cleared out.
I wanted to vacuum up some rust in the tray, to keep it from happening anytime soon..
    but now it's STORMING.!

So much for actually getting work done.
    :)

Can these cement steps just be repainted white as is? They got power washed today and look better.

Or does one need to use a grinder to remove the old paint and then paint them?

There are a few chips here and there.
