This is my understanding as well -- There was a police involved shooting in Englewood which did trigger some protests and then the people looting downtown used that distraction to go at it. News covered has been absolute crap though, as usual. They're desperately trying to build some narrative beyond "break down of social fabric."

There was no protest this morning or last night.
It started as a coordinated large gathered on michigan ave with the intent to loot. The gathered and started to loot MI ave and the police was caught off guard.

Basically the criminals tested the system and have discovered that their is no consequence for doing illegal stuff now.

Can't give a timeline, but the moment the businesses in the Mag Mile decide it's not worth it to repair and go forward, it's the beginning of the end.

As long as people are still willing to put their money in Chicago, it will not go the Detroit route. Keep in mind that in Detroit, the major industry collapsed and the supporting businesses had to close up, leading to what it is now which is a shadow of its former self.

In Chicago's case, it could be the lawlessness that leads the money leaving, rather than following it as in Detroit. When I was a kid, Detroit was the 4th largest city in the U.S. Even though it is still dominated by the auto industry, it is now 19th.

If there were political will to "take back the streets" in Chicago, the devolution is not inevitable...but certainly looks probable at this point.

This is what happens when you simultaneously castrate police and praise mobs.

    yup

Would love to take you up on that -- I'ma try to make the Sept meetup, no good reason I shouldn't. Should I pick up a box of .38 special if I see one?

    It depends.
I can spot you a dozen rounds or so.
If you want to shoot a whole box worth though, you might want to buy a box.
The gun will take .38 special, or .357.
