NWI INGO General Post - Part 13

My daughter, 2nd LT USMC, SPENT THE LAST 2 weeks at the range at Camp LeJeune. Shot expert with the M-4, again. Soft expert with the pistol earlier in the year. She said it was a nice couple of weeks, but back to "the office" today!

We we talked a little about buying a handgun. But she's not sure she wants the responsibility of owning one. I encouraged her to keep thinking about it. And to look into getting an IN lifetime LTCH. Pointed out she could apply online (I think) or at lest download the paperwork. Also, that it appears NC respects the IN LTCH. anyone have any insight or experience on that!

Also reminded her to apply for her absentee ballot!

Important thing to remember for her, handgun permits do NOT work on a military base. Off post might work out ok, but on post, it is VERY verboten. As in, it could end a career at the least. Just the heads up. I'd still say, good idea for the permit, doesn't hurt.

I would think it could expand the number of riders by making it easier to learn.

If my wife can learn then anyone should be able to master shifting a motorcycle fairly quickly.

She's well aware of that. She did not get a handgun while at TBS (many of her collegues did) becasue of the hassle of having to store it in the arms room or armory, or maybe in a friends apartment who had an off-base apartment.

Yep, first I'd had a storage locker until they moved me off post, then I was able to have my collection. Granted, going overseas, had to leave them with family cause I didn't want movers stealing them and not knowing for years.

Oh its not hard. Nor is it hard to drive a stick shift car. But many people look at shifting as a hurdle and with more people unable to drive a manually shifting car its probably going to make more people reluctant to look at motorcycles.

Further, auto transmission cars are now more economical than manuals and even high performance sports cars actually get better performance with auto tranny units than with manual shifting ... the Honda DCT seems to be making a solid case for similar results.

Just saying that the time has come.
