I have a pristine 1940 Remington 141 on the way. Someone has high lighted the stamping on the barrel and receiver with what appears to be white paint. How can I safely remove it without damage to the nearly perfect bluing?
They may have used a white grease pencil and not paint...just something to consider. A nylon brush with some of the above mentioned solvent might get down into the letters better - if needed. Q tip would be the less aggressive approach and probably a good place to start.
I used Turtle Wax grease, tar, and oil remover on an old toothbrush. Paint came right off after about a 5 minute soak.
Rattle can was on the wood stock too. It also came off but it took a couple of soaks and brushings.
