Shanghai is beautiful, I hear. And I will, thanks!

And I love trying foods, but now I am afraid I'll get food poisoning again. That was no fun at all...

My wife taught English in China many years ago. She is from the Shanghai area and we have lots of friends and family scattered throughout China. If you need anything there let me know and we probably know someone that can help you.

Travel around the country as much as you can. Try to avoid the tourist places and get someone to take you out into the country side..then you will see the real China.
Try all the foods that they offer you...but you might not want to ask what it is until after you eat it!

So you are not a woman then? What if they don't imply it in their username? Is there another way to tell right off the bat? That could be something that the INGO site takes into account, I think it would be nice to be able to know the sex of a person with one glance, but that's just me. And hey--maybe we LIKE the attention? Lol. And YES! I talk to my students about guns all the time. I always ask them what they think of them. They always give answers like, "we do not need guns here, it's peaceful, blah blah blah." Haha. Peaceful or not, I would feel better if I was carrying as I am walking alone in downtown Beijing!

Well, I KNOW that there is crime in China, because they have police. If you have police, you require crime. Otherwise, the police would lose their jobs. (grin)

I would say that it's safe to assume that anyone you talk to on here is male. If you make that assumption, you will be correct 99% of the time. There are over 13,000 members on INGO. I don't know how many are female, but I would guess there's less than 100.

I personally just never really thought about it. Firearms knowledge and ability is gender-neutral. Besides, I'm married, so I can't care about such things.:):

    Anyway, welcome.

LOL! WOW! "I want boobs so I get so much attention, too!" HAHA. I literally laughed out loud when I read that! And I am trying to respond to all the questions that are asked of me, that is the polite thing to do ;) And yes, sometimes it is quite nice to have, uh, womanly things! Lol. Four pages worth of comments and a badge? Sweet! Keep em coming fellows! ;)

Were you writing back to each person who responded to you? Didja post something interesting that you were doing?

Yes, they have crime here, but it is incredibly minimal. That's what a strict death penalty does! It creates peace. America could take lessons from China. Here, if you rape or sell drugs, they shoot you in the back of the head and then guess what?! They charge your family for the bullet! Strict laws=peace and little to no need for police officers to carry guns :) It's kind of like Texas here, except more bad as* LOL.

And okay, I will just assume that. :)

so tell me pls? isnt the net monitored very close ! how r you getting around the filters or am i mistaken!

I had wondered the same thing. Maybe she just can't say what she really feels. :dunno: Maybe the "food poisoning" reference actually referred to something entirely different.

(yeah, gotcha all thinking about it now. . . . .)

I have had discussions about firearms many times in China. We have a friend who was the police chief of a Chinese city similar in size to Indy (now a government anti corruption official) and he likes to talk about guns. He is not against guns but believes the people there are not ready for them... of course he is a party member and I am sure they don't want people armed.

The police have access to guns and in some areas you see armed soldiers (not common but they are around). Armored car crews are also armed....saw some with shotguns that they obviously weren't qualified to be carrying. Hopefully they weren't loaded.

Yup! The internet is monitored very closely here. Even FaceBook is blocked. There is little porn and many sites are blocked. But alas, I have an American proxy that I bought about a week after arriving here so it appears (to them) that I am online in the states and not in China, so I can go to any website I want to and say anything I want to without worrying about Big Brother watching.

And you're probably not the only one there doing just that. :):

Welcome (officially) to INGO. Be safe in the East and we hope for your safe return.

Eh, I'm not worried about it. I've been saying things about God and guns since I've had this proxy and I've yet to be kicked out or tortured, so I'm good :)

You mean to tell us that you've been posting about God AND guns, and you expect the US authorities to let you back in???

    Silly Girl.
