I'm sure everyone has seen starwars (the original trilogy)
And have seen han solos drop leg holster. In the new movie jumanji the rocks character has a very similar holster for his machete.

Which got me thinking is that a real holster or is it something movie prop artist dreamt up?

If it's a real holster what is it called? How would one find one?

    Thanks!

thigh holsters are a real thing. The benefit is if your hand is at your side it's closer and less stuff on the belt (LE/Mil where they have plate carriers and gobs of equipment.) Also can be easier to unholster in some situations (sitting). downside is lack of concealment, bounces around/moves if you move lot (ie: running), and it's further away if your hands aren't at your side.

I know drop leg holsters are a thing. I even have one. I was speaking more about ones like Hans. With the three point buckle and such.

The people designing costumes for the original trilogy took tons of inspiration from military and western history. I'd be willing to bet it was something designed around a stock mauser broomhandle holster, and a western design/drop leg leather rig.
