I have never owned a truck and was wanting to pick something up and was hoping some of you may have some suggestions.

im lookin for a mid size crew cab truck that comes with a legit 4x4. I'd like something that at least gets 20mpg.

I am looking used and probably 10 years old or so.. Don't want to spend over 10k cheaper the better really.

Any help would be awesome. Thanks!:ingo:

Hmm. I think I know what it is you seek:

Seriously, though...that is a tall order, especially as we head into the winter months. Trucks hold their value in indiana, a good one below $10,000/10 years is a rare find.

(I paid 15k for my 2008 silverado with 100k on the clock...I looked for months for a truck)

    Good luck!

I have a 05 1/2 ton crew cab 4x4 in the classifieds. It is more than 10k, and it does not get 20MPG. I would agree with the others that no truck exists that does all you need.

I HAD a 05 Colorado crew cab 4x4. Its not a mid size, and it did not get 20 MPG

The truck you're looking for absolutely does exist. '01-'04 Chevy Duramax. You can find em used for around 10k. Yes it'll have a metric poop ton of miles on it but those engines just keep on chuggin. Find one that's recently had it's injectors replaced, immediately drive it to Fleece and have em put a mileage tune on it. Be easy with your right foot and BAM, everything you want. Smaller than the Ford and Dodge offerings of the same period.

Is a 3/4 ton truck a midsize. I still doubt you can find a running 200 ish duramax for 10k

If you are just getting it to drive I would get a F-150 or Chevy 1500....if you are getting it to work with like pulling and hauling, I would look at the 2500 or F-250.

I own both a Ford and Chevy 3/4 ton.....and my Ford is definitely a workhorse. It will haul 2x what my Chevy hauls....but it rides like a tank empty and gets stuck easier. My Chevy rides like a Caddy and is hard to hang with the factory lockers. It has been a very good truck as well.

I paid a lot more than 10k for mine but it's a 07 with 100, miles. I also had to put a couple thousand into it to get over 20 mpg. The factory truck got 13 mpg, after exhaust, down pipe, cold air intake it got 18 mpg. After a danville performance tune it gets 22 in town and 25 on highway.

If you drop the 4wd requirement (I've never seen the need personally), you can EXCEED that 20mpg requirement with the GMT800 chassis. Our 06 CC GMC has knocked down 24mpg on the highway at 70mph multiple times (well, before E10) and putzing around gets us 19. 4.8L V8 with the 3.23 rear end it tows well enoug (it's fairly comfortable up to 5k lbs), rides great and is super reliable. For winter we throw in this: http://www.autoaccessoriesgarage.com/img/group/main/53/5395_1_lg.jpg Even with the open diff, it takes some hellacious snow and ice to stop it.

Look into the smaller Toyota trucks. I get about 20mpg on the road and 15 running around with my 04 gmc 2500 hd crew cab long bed 4x4 duramax. But it's been tuned and all emissions deleted.

My '88 Chevy half ton gets about 18 mpg most of the time. Road trips, it will get 21 or 22.

The problem you are going to have with older trucks that are going to end up in your price range, is that the body is going to be rusting or beat to death. I have some trucks much newer than mine in horrible shape. 4 wheel drive tend to be abused way more than 2 wheel drive around here since the farm kids get them and go mudding in the fields and such with them.

My 2001 Ram 4X4 2500 CTD gets 20 mpg and will do just about everything you would want a truck to do, finding one for under 10K will be tough.
