I wouldn't mess around with the extended capacity mags in a 795. That being said, I LOVE mine. Added tech sights ,a hardwood stock from Numrich and four extra mags. It outshoots every other semi-auto .22lr I've ever owned. It's done yard duty, range duty, and taken two rifleman patches. Reliably feeds everything I've thrown at it. I clean the chamber, crown, and action every 500 rounds or so. I haven't really messed with cleaning the barrel and it's got at least 3k down the pipe.

Anyone know where I can get a cheap but good set of flat black dovetail mount 1 inch scope rings? I forgot that I have got a nice Redfield 2-7x32 scope sitting unused in my safe. I'm going to give it a try on this gun.

I want another marlin. I have a model 70 but the deal on the 795 is got me wanting another for my boys.

I looked at Dicks here in town and they have them for $139 but last time I was there the manager said they put it on sale for $99 on black friday. I am willing to wait 2 months for $40

I bought one of these last Christmas at Dicks. They were on sale for $125 - then you got a $25 rebate from Marlin making them $100. But, Dicks occasionally has coupons for $10 off a $100 dollar purchase and other coupons for "Double Scorecard Points". 300 points ($300 dollars spent) = $10 gift card. You just spent $125 without rebate = 250 pts with double coupon, so a bit of ammo or other crap, and you get $10 more back. Look in the weekly grocery circular that comes with the junk mail for the coupons or sign up on line and they mail you bigger sale catalogs. The rifle is still $125 with $25 rebate = $100 right now. But, if you get the coupons you get another $10 off right away, and potentially a $10 gift card. Points expire at year end, so don't wait for Christmas.

This rifle is a bargain at this price. I can put 10 shots in a 1" circle at 50 yards using CCI Mini-mag HPs off an informal rest using 3-9x scope set at 8x. Cheaper ammo is significantly worse - Federal or Winchester bulk HPs group at least twice as large. The CCI mini mags are $7 per 100 at Wally World. Twice the cost of the bulk, but worth it if you want to shoot squirrels. If not, the bulk is great for blasting away. The trigger is heavy, but, the gun is accurate. Can't beat it.

I am a big fan of the Ruger 10/22. I have way too much in mine. I do not like the Marlin 795. However, I admit that the Marlin 795 outperforms the Ruger 10/22 out of the box. Of course, my Ruger 10/22 will out perform a Marlin 795 now that I have $1400+ tied up in it (that includes $600 for supressor with tax stamp).

So if you have $800, the Ruger 10/22 way outperforms the Marlin 795. If you are limited to $200, buy two Marlin 795's and each one will outperform the Ruger 10/22.

The $25 rebate should still be good then. I'm pretty sure it runs until January, but I might be wrong. Imagine a rifle like this for 74 bucks!! Hell, I'd likely buy another.

I've had good luck with this one piece mount on Marlin 22's, and its pretty inexpensive.

They are $99 AFTER rebate. You can find additional $10 off coupons though.

I have a Model 60 that I love, but it quit on me years back after about 20 years of shooting. I've been looking for another ever since. It was my first rifle and my first love.

I use to be able to hit pennies with mine at 25 yards with iron sights every time.

I love my Mod 60 Too! Now what I want is the new Nikon Scope for .22 that will allow you to shoot .22lr accurately to 200yrds! Got built in mil dots to compensate for the drop. And it's less than $200.00. Saw it on Guns and Ammo TV or some thing the guy that tested it said It's just a little off because the dots are set up for .22's that are rated at 1600fps so he had to do a little compensating of his own but loved the scope!

How to turn a $100 rifle into a $400 rifle.

Take a Marlin 795, add a wood stock, $230 scope, DIP trigger and guard, etc. Probably doesn't shoot any better but looks and handles way better.

I can get nickel sized groups at 25 yards with cheapo bulk ammo, with just a bag for support.
Next time at the range I'm gonna try Mini-mags at 50 yards.

This is what my Mod. 60 wil do at 50yrds on Fedaral Bulk. I have a Simmons 3x9x40 scope on it! and I was only using my elbow for a rest and sooting fairly quick!

My 795 left a bit to be desired right out of the box. Bought it on sale for $99 after rebate from the dreaded G.Mtn months ago.

The rear site was poorly mounted. It jammed a number of times during my first outing. The slide failed to fully charge between shots so I'd have to flick it or fully rack the slide to reload (though that is likely from crappy Remington Gold ammo).

    HOWEVER...

After some tweaking on the rear iron sites with a pliers, a good cleaning, and more shooting to break it in... I'M HAVING A BLAST WITH IT.

I probably should have taken it back after the first range day and traded for another, but hey.

Also, the mags would be better for loading. I'm spoiled with how easy it is to load the various .22 pistol mags.

I'll get a cheap scope for it soon. For now, I enjoy plinking a metal spinner at @ 55-60 yards using open sites at Eagle Creek.
