Long ago there was a thread about "what bands have you seen live in concert" or something to that effect. I should know, I started it, but it was as stated... LONG ago. Anyhow... the search isn't showing up anything, and I wanted to bring it back to life as it has been quite some time and things have changed. Looks like we gonna have to start all over.
So... what bands have you seen live in concert?
Also, what one / ones have had the biggest impact on you & why?
Marie Osmond (First ever live performance as a kid @ a Cummins Engine Co shareholder meeting)
Larry Gatlin & The Gatlin Brothers (also Cummins Engine Co, CERALand park)
Jan & Dean (first solo concert, Paton museum park Ft Knox KY during Basic)
The following were at "Monsters of Rock" Zeppelin Field in West Germany in 1983...
Twisted Sister
Saxon
Motorhead
Thin Lizzy
Meatloaf
Blue Oyster Cult
Whitesnake
Ozzy was supposed to perform, but the signs said he would not "due to illness"
AC/DC
The Kinks
Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
Bachman Turner Overdrive
Kiss
Guess Who
Rolling Stones
Fleetwood Mac
Pink Floyd
Corey Stevens
Lee Greenwood*
Airmen of Note (U.S. Air Force Jazz Ensemble, direct descendants of the Army Air Corp Glenn Miller Band)
Steve Miller Band
John Couger Mellencamp
Kenny Chesney
Air Supply (wife made me)
.38 Special
Eagles* (before Glenn died)
Joe Bonamasa
Foreigner
Loverboy
Kansas
Electric Light Orchestra
One Night of Queen (Queen tribute band)
Get The Led Out* (Led Zeppelin tribute band)
Lexington Lab Band (Best cover band in general. They can do anybody)
OK... most impact... You probably say the * on 3 of them.
1. Back during Desert Storm I was a Drill Sgt at Ft Benning. Lee Greenwood came to pump up the troops, and man did he ever. We had thousands of privates in a huge gym all singing "I'm proud to be an American... where at least I know I'm free..."
The roar of all those strong young male voices singing that song was truly something life changing.
I was not the only Drill Sgt hiding behind the bleachers so the privates couldn't see his tears of pride and joy that day.
That was the single most powerful concert performance of my entire life.
2. The Eagles. I've been an Eagles fan forEVER, so when I finally got to see them (just a year or so prior to Glenn's passing) it was a very good show. Also... by then, I was able to bring my wife & kids with so they could share my love of their music with me. When they got back together for their "Hell freezes over" tour they had a few new songs, and they were playing live on tv one night. When "Love will keep us alive" played I told my then fiancée that should be our song... and it was. All those years later, the kids watched us dance in the isle next to the sound board, while our song was being sung live by the Eagles.
3. As a big Led Zeppelin fan, it always bothered me I never got to see them. I have, however, seen Get the Led Out, and they are phenomenal as a tribute band. Listening to them is as listening to a studio album. They are that good. Now, I feel as if I had seen the great Zep. Strange, because I HAVE seen Pink Floyd, one of my other favorites... and that concert was just OK... Crappy seats, a rowdy crowd, and the sound wasn't that great.
