Anyone aware of any smiths that could/would do a marlin 336 conversion to 450 bushmaster. No one that I can find still offers this service outright but looking if any smiths that might take this on or have done it before? I found one that will take it on but looking at other options in case his schedule doesn't allow for this project.

I thought the .450 Bushmaster was developed to give .45-70 performance to an AR? So why not go with that?

I of course do not mean to dissuade anyone from doing something cool.

    This. Kinda.

This is my understanding as well. The Bushmaster is not a rimmed cartridge, which is necessary for a lever action. And rimmed carts dont work well in an automatic action. Which is why they came up with it.

And then someone just wasnt happy with the .450 still not being a 45-70 so they came up with the new-ish 45-70 auto cartridge.

I like different and already have 45/70 and other things. Its a very doable conversion that used to be readily available but no longer is with all the introduction of bolt 450 bushmaster. I know its not necessary but if you knew me you would see that I like to have guns and calibers done that no one has.

Well lets not forget, Brownings BLR & 1895 levers and others use rimless cartridges.
And all automatic 22LR pistols function with rimmed rounds.

    Why do you hate 45-70?
    I don't.
    I love the .45-70 gvt
    I have a Handi-Rifle in .45-70 as well as a Marlin 1895 in .45-70.

Just thought the .444 Marlin would be about the same power factor without all of the smithing issues.

I'm still looking for an affordable .444 Marlin lever gun.

    It was a funny.
I'm always looking for affordable Browning levers. You really dont even see them for sale that often anymore.
That Marlin is a unicorn also.

    I do love my levers.
The .45-70 and .35 Remington are just plain fun, although a little spendy to feed.

What gun is your 35 Remington?
I managed to get lucky with both the .35 Remington and the .45-70.
I took a chance when I heard Remington had starred doing better quality wise.
Both guns, fit and finish are great, and function has been flawless.

I'd love to try one of the new Ruger Marlins, but my budget won't allow that.
I also got great prices on the Remlins.

Ive pondered a 35 Rem or a 35 Whelen with I have 6-800? Nosler partitions and Hornady bullets that came in a deal a few years ago and they are just sitting on the shelf. But they are all pointed so it will have to be either a bolt or maybe a Browning BLR.
