I delayed spending almost $200 for a proper set of nut slot files for years. I would flat file the back of the nut after making measurements and that was close, but you really need to be able to adjust the slots individually to get it the best.Nut height is what I see most out of spec from the factory... That's the least identifiable or correctable by a new player...

If you own one guitar, it is hard to justify the expense. If you own many and moonlight at a guitar shop, the expense is a must.
I've had guitars set up by two other techs in the central IN area and I'll gladly make the hour + drive to take mine to Derek from now on. There are people out there who can do a great setup without a doubt. Derek is at another level.I'm soooooo excited to play it after he's done. The guitar deserves it. I'll likely drop off the Strat for him to go over it as well. I've got frets that need attention. I'm not a great guitar player as I'm still knocking the rust off and going back to learn more theory. However, it's so rewarding and something I can do into old age.
THe Musicman Stingray bass is a great instrument. I didn't even know they made it in a maple fretboard model. I always enjoy hearing about people finding their "unicorn" guitar.I have looked everywhere for a few months for a stingray bass with maple fretboard, and finally found one after getting on sweetwaters waiting list. They emailed me saying they had a few in stock, and sent me pictures. Within the hour, I had this one on the way, and got it last weekend. Absolutely love it, setup was great, and aside from having to adjust intonation a slight bit, it was perfect right out of the very well packed box.

Great amp.Picked up this little beast this week. It’s a hybrid (tube preamp and solid state power) Ridiculous tone in a tiny package. It’s paired with an 8” cab, but this thing will push a 412 cabinet just fine.
My first thought was “damn, I wish these were around when I was a kid”, but then I remembered I’d have been more excited about tons of ****** digital effects than pure tone then.

Surprised Chibson hasn’t sued for that head design as it looks just like theirs but better. Sweet looking guitar.Just bought by first acoustic. D'Angelico.
I have a Fender M80 2x12 that is solid state, I generally only use it for its clean channel, but it tends to get really harsh really fast with the drive channel. This is the first tube amp I’ve owned in a couple of decades, and just the little bit that I’ve played through it today, I’m really liking it.Looks like a good deal. I have heard a lot of good things about the 5150 from hard rockers. With so much solid state stuff, people forget how loud a 60 or 80 watt Tube amp sounds. I am still playing the beast from the 70's, A Fender Twin Reverb, and I have the herniated discs in my back to prove it. I wish I would have always used a hand truck for that 80 plus pound amplifier. Those big transformers and big speakers put the weight on really fast.

I had a late 60s Fender princeton reverb that I just could never bond with, and that sorta ruined me on tube amps for a while.
I have a Squier Telecaster in that color. It is amazing how "right" the Squier guitars are these days. Those Classic Vibe models really are quality built. Your son should be able to rock that guitar right into playing gigs. Have fun!Just ordered a Fender Squire strat in Lake Placid blue today for my 14yr old son for Christmas. Took some looking around to find a small deal. Cheapest was $429 but found a music shop in Missouri on Reverb that had a new one that dropped their price to $350 with $45 shipping so I snagged it. He's been fooling around on my acoustics but said something about wanting an electric. Now on the hunt for a good price on a Boss Katana 50
