Any lesser known but good movies to recommend? I admit I have odd taste in movies (and many other things), but after reading the postings of the many characters here on this forum perhaps I am not too far off the beaten path after all.

First recommend. "Astropia" Funny low budget movie from Iceland of all places. Was number one 2007 movie in Iceland.

Second recommend. "Dawns Here Are Quiet" Very well made 1972 Soviet movie about five anti-aircraft gunner women who must stop a group of German paratroopers during WWII.

Third recommend. "Close To Home" Story of the friendships of two Israeli in girls their compulsory military service.

    All have subtitles.
All may be found at the Indianapolis Public Library.

Have any of you seen the above movies?
    Any movies you might recommend?

What about old school samurai films? Hidden Fortress, Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Sanjuro...Toshiro Mifune is my Japanese John Wayne.

Lady Snowblood is another good one.

I am not a big movie-phile but every so often I get in to something, these were a few films that really struck me.

I'll add another vote for Downfall, one of the best WWII movies ever, IMHO. If you like WWII history then check out Das Boot. For something a little more unusual, try Twelve Monkeys.

Boy In the Striped Pajamas may be the most depressing movie I've ever seen.

    Ditto:(

Manhunter(older version of Red Dragon directed by Michael Mann(Miami Vice)

Night of the Hunter(Robert Michum plays one scary mo-fo)

King of New York(Christopher Walken rules)

    True Romance(again Christopher Walken rules)

One False Move(sure Billy Bob Thornton is a freak, but this is before he really lost his mind)

We got Showtime back in the mid 70's and this movie was running...It did not do good when it came out but since then has become a bit of a cult classic. Tough to find but worth it...A VERY intense movie...

    "Sorcerer"

I saw this on netflix this week and I highly reccomend it. It's like a cross between "Dances With Wolves" and "Braveheart"...Plus the scenery is beautiful...I had no idea how gorgeous Taiwan is...

    "Warriors of the Rainbow."

Very good, quite a few I have never heard of.

Ill add one more to the list. Its a low budget webcast written & acted by Felicia Day. Very funny series about a group of online gamers. Found the DVD at the Indy public library by accident and ended up watching the whole series.
