Labeling your ammo cans, using obscure names for the Caliber....

My line of thought is that labeling is not only for me, but to help someone else, should they need to be able to identify some of this stuff without me. I need to get to labeling and organizing ammo a bit more. I have labeled the firearms that I may store in boxes besides the one they came in (i.e. they came in cardboard and I am storing them in the safe in a plastic box for example).

My son will take all of this in the future (he is in TX and already reloads as well).
All of my reloads go into ziplock baggies with both the load data and the chrono info included. Anyone grabbing the bag knows what they are getting...including me.

Lol, the "Russian" calibers are in Cyrillic and I label the magazine tubs in Cyrillic too.

Mind you, German ammo is labeled pretty funny.

Hate the metal GI cans (my dad loved em and had many).
Sound hurts my ears open/close.

I run the MTM plastic cans.
Masking tape label w Sharpie marker lettering.
General label of "12 ga slug" or specific like "WW DXP .243"

Found some 3.5" Federal steel goose loads from the early 90s (mine), stashed in pop's garage.
Reason I forgot em? Put in a GI can.

7.65 Browning
7.65 Parabellum (this is a new addition)
9 Corto/Scurt/Kurtz
9 Parabellum
16 Bore
12 Bore

The I have my US calibers marked
Cartridge, Caliber .45, Pistol
Cartridge, Caliber .30, Carbine
Cartridge, Caliber 5.56 mm
Cartridge, Caliber 7.62 mm
Cartridge, Caliber .30, Rifle
Grenade, Rifle, 22MM (Before someone freaks out, these are ALL parachute flares! or dummy trainers, but still considered by the Army as part of the assortment of Rifle grenades)

22RF was a bit, weird and it didn't separate the Shorts from the LRs very well. so I went with the Metric descriptions.

7.65 Parabellum is a new one. I found a Beretta in that Caliber. It isn't as hard as you would think to find. The Outdoorsman on 135 carrys it.

My label system for 223 is easy
69 gr match rifle
77 gr match rifle
69 gr service rifle
77 gr service rifle

Her 55 gr blasting ammo

Factory 55 gr ammo

However this will need to get sorted out as I have 3 03 Springfield, 2 03A3, 1 1917 & an M1 ......they all use 30 -06

And thus that is the point. I know what it is.. no one else does without 15 minutes of google. And cell phones don't work ... down there. (its a former COAL BIN).

Yeah my house has a former COAL BIN, still got the chute and all.. I store bags on anthracite down there still.

I think I am the only one in Indiana, who has a house with a functional Coal Bin.. that is also used for Ammo storage.

And lest you think the names I am using are totally obsolete. They still sell boxes to this day with the caliber designations I use on them.
