The Mondragon was another semi-auto rifle that doesn't get much notice.
Mondragon was a pretty smart cookie. A cartridge he designed with a washer inside the case holding the base of the bullet to act as an expanded area piston to provide greater initial acceleration thrust with the smokeless powder of the day was daring genius. I think his rifles that saw combat service were all 7x57 though.
That is pretty cool.
