Speaking of that I was talking to my father about getting a 45/70 single shot rifle for deer hunting. I like the Henry single shot.I don't care so much about knockdown power. I like big holes to let their inside outside.
My father said he'd like one in 44mag or 30-30Single shot and .45-70.....id go Ruger #1S. Unfortunately i dislike big rimmed cartridges ( aesthetic ) so would opt for a .460 smith or .44 mag.
just textd a bud about how cool a #1A in 6.5 grendel.would be.
Ruger only makes 3 calibers a year with No1 rifles. Never know when they will get out a 45/70 again.I gotta get off my azz and figure out what to do about my #3. My dads old #1 is beat to heck but shoots .75 w factory Norma .22 -250 and its bone stock. No forend work, triggrr job, nuthin. So guess ill leave that one as is. Its not great but entirely usable for yotes IMHO
the 358 wssm pushes a 225 gr bullet at 2600fps equals 3378 foot pounds of energy. What is that comparable to? 45/70 energy wise?
Used they are often for sale. That redpad doesnt do much to tame the smack. They did the 1S w 22" bbl which I think looks fantastic. The .460.and .44 stuff is shorter and doesnt look as good.Ruger only makes 3 calibers a year with No1 rifles. Never know when they will get out a 45/70 again.
The hunters or the deer?Makes me think they are tier one operators.
An H&R Buffalo Classic is another really nice, affordable shooter.Henry single shot rifle

throwing red flag.A buddy of mine took a buck with his this year. Said it knocked the deer back 4 feet and into a ravine. DRT.
Only 45ACP does that...throwing red flag.
I tend to lean towards this opinion as well.I wouldn't personally do it unless you can reliably land a head shot.
With all of the chamberings available, why would you use something that weak for hunting? You can grab a 450 bushmaster upper for $220 from BCA.
