Being close to their shore I would not dismiss any of those boats. They could swarm a Carrier and sink it with Silkworms.

The silk worm has a range of 95km. Our carriers wouldn't come within range of their missiles because they carry aircraft designed to kill those small boats. Sorry bout the fishing boats that go down. Shouldn't be fishing in a warzone.

It's possible they could get an aircraft in range, but not likely. Their Kilo Class subs are no match for our HK subs and you can almost bet we would be actively pinging the CRAP outta the waters. There's no way they could sneak past the destroyers.

It would be a suicide mission to attack the US Navy and they know it. This is all just saber rattling at it's finest.

Sure, we'd take some causalities. But they wouldn't have a Navy OR Air Force after they attack us.

The Straits of Hormuz is only 54km wide at its narrowest point.

While that is true, consider the range of the aircraft aboard the US Carriers. Then consider the land based aircraft that would patrol the area from the UAE. I don't see it being a problem after air superiority is established. Which, IIRC, is the second or third move in our game of chess.

With a war against a nation such as Iran, I believe our subs would come first, then special forces, then the air war. Of course, spies are always first, but they don't count because they aren't REALLY there. ;)
