Rifles are not more dangerous. In fact they are probably less dangerous, at least if you go by the experience Wisconsin has had with expanding rifles hunting to most of the state.
And I can tell you from hunting adjacent to public ground the the amount of shooting is no more and probably less since rifles have been allowed. Now that could be circumstantial and due to many factors. However, the number of injuries and deaths caused by gun shots has gone down and this past season set a record.
Only 4 total injuries and I think all 4 were self inflicted.
