A good 50 inch wingspan on this one.It is the size of a medium dog.I have seen a few larger birds,but not many.They can live up to 21 years in the wild.Wonder how old this one is?It does have a mate that is more timid/scared of people.No picture of that one yet.It is an amazing animal to watch take flight.The power moves a decent amount of snow,and when it walks it is comical.Another odd behavior is the hopping up in the air,which I think is due to not being able to see objects right in front of it.It will hop a good 3-4 feet in the air to pick up a piece of food(each time).Better than cable tv
The sounds it makes are just odd.Everything from a gurgle to a screech.It talks back when I whistle(I whistle to call the Chickadee's).
I wish I had a video when it tucks its wings mid flight to go through trees.Amazingly graceful for its huge size.
