How do you recommend we stop people attacking us? If we want to maintain global trade and the dominance of the dollar, that is one thing, but how do we make nice even if we are ok with our global position slipping without getting torn apart by either china or other invasions?
Attacking us? When? You mean 23 years ago that was a direct result of us meddling in the middle east? This is a largely conservative forum, and self responsibility is practically the identity of conservatism. But when it comes to foreign policy, everyone magically forgets what self responsibility is and can't comprehend actions having consequences.
This has nothing to do with China. This is the middle east we are talking about, and every time we take action in the middle east we WEAKEN our country relative to China. Had it not been for the GWOT draining America to a husk of its former self, China would not be a threat today.
Not every problem requires us to shed our blood and treasure abroad. In fact the majority of them require we keep to ourselves if we want to prosper and have good foreign relations.
We already surrendered the dollar as the global trade currency when we decided to sanction Russia the way we did. Another example of our actions harming us more than inaction would have.
The only foreign entanglement I would endorse would be a defense of Taiwan against China, because we have not established semi-conductor fabs here quickly enough to be on the cutting edge. And since Taiwan is basically the sole source for cutting edge chips, that means we have to defend it.
