I would never tell a clerk he's crazy or whatever over the price of the product. If it's more than I want to pay, guess what ? I don't pay it. Yes it's called Capitalism. Funny, but on this forum the word "socialism" is bandied about and bemoaned when talking about politicians, but when it comes to gun pricing , some seem to be in favor of it.

Well im not moaning about butthurt im not in to that but you sound like a man with experience in that department. Im just saying the guy seemed like a jakass I went there to get a feel for the gun. I think it's sad that they take advantage of people that don’t know any better.

    They chose to be IGNORANT!

If you believe in true freedom then you have to accept that being free to be ignorant is part of the equation.

If I want to buy a handgun, I'll go to an LGS. When I'm looking at hunting guns I'll go someplace where they have a good selection, which typically means GM, Bass Pro, or Cabala's.

GM occationally has fantastic deals on guns including handguns. I have seen the LCP on their website twice now for $269 which is like $90 less than their normal price. So they have deals if you look for them.

I can't understand for the life of me why anyone would purchase anything in this day and age without doing some research online. I mean the days of hoping your getting a good price is long gone with the internet. Granted it takes a lot more time, and energy to do the research. With a little computer savvy to know where to go, and how to look you will find a deal. I just can't understand not spending the time to find what the true market value is. I don't blame people for having higher prices. I blame the poor sap who didn't do his research in the first place.

There are several people who like to pay big money for a gun, or car, or groundhog display case ect. ect... and then brag to all his buddies about how much he spent. I personally get a thrill from saving money. To each his own. It is what a free market society is all about.

I have had nothing but positive experiences at the southside Gander, but that's primarily because they will price match anyone in the city if they have it in stock. Don’t get me wrong, I like supporting my local shop too but until a local shop gives me a generous line of credit due to my good standing with the reporting agencies, Gander will continue to receive some of my firearm business. :twocents:

They told my mom the other day that 45 acp are hard to come by, they wanted premium prices at $85 for 100 rounds of winchester 45 acp

This is poor business practice and unethical IMO.... flat out lying to a potentially "unaware" patron is wrong.

This story just scratched Gander Mtn off of my retailers list....

Last time I was at GM(southside), they offered to price match anybody within a reasonable distance. And the majority of shoppers seemed to be pupose shopping. i.e. something happened in their neighborhood, damn squirrels chewed the powercord they had run out to there RV in the driveway and such... So they wanted 1 gun and they wanted it now. It is interesting the conversations you hear while you are checking out scopes.

I love Gander Mountain... for everything BUT guns.

Go to Bradis or BeechGrove firearms.... or even Elmores.

I went to GM and found the PX4 I wanted. It was $100 more than prices on the internet, but I didn't want to wait, so I paid the price because they had it in stock. The funny thing is, I went to Bradis and their PX4 was $50 more than I paid at GM, LOL.

So, it really depends on the particular gun. If a gun is moving too fast I think they raise the prices to keep it on the shelves longer so that more people get to see it. Personally, if I were them, I'd just order a whole lot more of the hot guns and sell them like mad at a low price, but I bet they are working with limited purchase quantities.

Im not saying I don't buy from them I have bought many guns from gander. They have always priced matched for me most of the time with plainfield shooting supply. I should have ask the guy if he would match price with smith and session! I buy most of my guns from Bob in plainfield been doing business with him for 20 years. I will still buy things from gander I just thought that 629.00 was crazy. When s&w list it at 449.00 . Most of the people on here that have bought the shield paid 380.00 to 429.00 . Maybe I should not have laughed at him owell. I started this thread because I thought this is a gun forum and that's what we talk about. And no I didn't get butthurt if I wanted to buy the gun I would have went to plainfield or asked gander to price match witch im sure they would have. I just wanted to see how it felt.

its a yuppie store for posers with more dollars than sense. Always fun to visit and watch the fools and their money part. lol

this poser loved GM when he lived in Indy, because there isn't a BassPro or Cabelas anywhere nearbye and Gander has everything one needs for bassfishin.

My only new gun purchase has been from the Castleton GM, and I got a nice deal on it. Admittedly they didn't INTEND to give me the deal, but the guys behind the counter were great and were all for giving the customer the benefit of the mistake.
... that said, on average they do hike the prices REALLY high on new guns.

I find plinking ammo to be nice and cheap there, too, compared to buying at the range...

We didn't have a good large sporting goods store in our town so I was excited a few years back when Gander came to town. After one trip in there I decided that we STILL didn't have a good large sporting good store in town. Prices are ridiculous on almost everything. Only in dire emergencies will I spend a penny in there.

I find GM to be a great place to window shop and sometimes handle a weapon that others may not have in stock...but my experience there this weekend I felt was typical. Was in the mood to buy a SR9c but wanted my wife to handle it first. Was around GM, went in and checked it out and decided to get one...so I called Bradis and they had one $70 cheaper.
