We had a shooting last week. A few minutes we stopped a car matching the description (same type, Ky. tags, number of people, everything). We all drew down and the driver and passenger cooperated. Driver had a gun and a ltch. It turned out not to be the shooter. Apologized to the driver and explained. He understood well. He shook our hands and left to go find the shooter. LEOS will understand, that when you put out a BOL every car that matches the description will flock to thant location. It can be a Ford Pinto and all of a sudden 10 Pintos will show up.

This is another example of a perfect reason to "hold" a weapon while investigating. I would feel very uncomfortable having LEO's surrounding me looking for a shooter and having my gun on my hip. In this type of scenario I believe it is best they hold it until they find out what is going on. I wouldn't want to reach for my phone and get shot because they thought I was trying to draw. We as carriers should iunderstand situations like this and not hesitate to cooperate with LEO's, at least in my opinion this is the right way to handle the situation! Flame me if you wish, but safety is top priority for all parties involved!

Look up "Terry Stop." If you match the possible Armed and Dangerous clause they can search and seize your weapons. Matching a description of a possible suspect would apply here. Its not a matter of opinions, its a matter of the law, what the law says and how the law is interpreted by the courts via case laws.

 That is SO true. I did the same thing with a dark blue 1980s Escort. I hadn't seen one in years, and there just happened to be two floating around that day?

Not a leo but my own personal experience when my cc was "printing" went like this.

SD standing next to me at the coke machine; Do you have a license for that? (while never looking away from the coffee he was pouring)

Me; yeah (while never looking away from the coke I was pouring).

    SD; Have a good one!

    Me; you too!

you guys disappoint me. where are the stories of proning out law abiding citizens, jack boots and such?

We did a felony stop. Had them come back one at a time, backwards, searced them, handcuffed and sat them on the sidewalk. The bad point about being prone on the sidewalk is that you have to get too close for a prolonged period of time to search. Really bad guys train for ground fighting. These guys were really decent after we explained and cooperated. No reason to embarrass them.

Same goes for this response, if you are investigating a crime or even possible crime, I completely understand taking control of the firearm. A traffic stop for a seatbelt does not fall into the crime category, but as far as this post goes, I agree!

I was pulled over for a seatbelt recently, they only thing he did was check the firearm and my LTCH, said have a nice day, didn't really bother me, law enforcement is a dangerous job, can't blame them for being safe.

If you are interested in standing up for your rights and not just accepting the status quo then you need to research a case called "Richardson v. State" and how it applies to traffic stops, SPECIFICALLY seatbelt stops. Once you show your LTCH all other inquiry into your firearm should have ceased. They do not have a need to "check" your legally possessed handgun.

You are more than free to give up any of your rights but I just wanted to show you the path to enlightenment :D

I enjoy seeing people OC. Armed society is a polite society. Hey if the SHTF maybe I would have some good back-up. I have had many good conversations with "gun guys" because of OC, met people I otherwise would'nt have.

I have to confess I was not learned on the subject of OC until I came to INGO. My general feeling is that people who OC are knowledgeable on the laws and their rights and are not very likely to OC without a LTCH. Criminals would never OC. They like to be secretive and conceal their intentions.
    :yesway:I agree 1,000 pecent!!!!!!:ingo:

LPMan59, have you had some bad run-ins with the police in the past or something? Taking personal property, stuffing the Constitution in the mouth, and stepping on the person with a "Jack" Boot? Like the Nazis used to wear? Most cops I have seen or known are not that bad. JMHO.

Oh buddy, ten Pintos in one location? I think we better call the fire department instead of the police! lol.:):
