"I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution ... or have failed their purpose ... or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden. I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is 'needed' before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible. And if I should be attacked for neglecting my constituents' 'interests,' I shall reply that I was informed that their main interest is liberty, and in that cause I am doing the very best I can."
    Barry Goldwater

With a quote like that, how did Goldwater lose to Johnson? The only history part I have been taught about Goldwater is that he lost because everyone was scared that he was going to use the bomb.

"There is a reason why you should separate military and the police.
One fights the enemy of the State. The other serves to protect the people.
When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the State tend to become the people."

It's not a quote really, as I just thought of it while reading a quote containing the vile word "democracy", but it does seem "quotable".
"Democracy, it's like letting the Zombies be in charge and they all vote for brains."
And for the record, I don't like democracy. I like Republics. I also used lots of "s to try an

"It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which finds a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another." George Washington 1796

They told (us) to open up the Embassy, or "we'll blow you away." And then they looked up and saw the Marines on the roof with these really big guns, and they said in Somali, "Igaralli ahow," which means "Excuse me, I didn't mean it, my mistake".

When the nurse said to James Garner in the movie "The Notebook", "Why do you continue to visit her? She doesn't even reconize you." (referring to his wife with advanced Alzhiemers). He replied, "She may not know who I am, but I know who she is."

I was thinking the origin of this story was from the life of this gentleman, Robertson McQuilkin, though I haven't been able to verify he spoke those words, his story, and its wide dispersal could easily have been its inspiration.
