The GM 5.3 and 6.0 gas motors are much better then Fords offerings, more more power and better mileage as well as being known for being tough.
Buy in CA to avoid the rotted out junk here!!!
Buy a 4x4, you will wish you had!
A bit off topic, but if you're willing to drive the speed limit and look unassuming, would you mind picking up a package in LA and bringing it to IN for me? It's a sensitive material that I can't send via post.
eagerly yours,

But finding ANY truck in good enough of a condition to traverse the country towing a heavy trailer is gonna cost more than $10k.

Blockfort, DON'T DO THIS I think this is about the full size nude (and anatomically correct) statue of Hilary made out of butter he has been talking about.
Doc, I don't think Blue Bonnets jingle "every thing's better with Blue Bonnet on it" was intended for stuff like this!
That's just really SICK!!!!!!
You did the "minds eye visual" thing didn't you.

First of all, you're wrong. Second of all, what I do in my spare time is of no business to you!
oh, and does anyone have a walk-in fridge for sale? Preferably one with a built-in shelf about 30" off the ground?
In March of 2017, I'll be moving from California to Monroe county. I want to tow an enclosed trailer to move my stuff. I don't know how much our stuff weighs, but it's just ordinary personal belongings of my girlfriend and I, no furniture or appliances. We live in a 1br apartment now. Anyway, I'll need a truck to tow it. Once I arrive in Indiana, I'll be restoring an old house, and will need to make hardware store runs for materials and tools.
I asked this forum and Calguns about what truck to get and almost everyone says an F150 or F250.
I'd like to spend less than $10k on whatever I get.
Is an F150 ok for what I want to do? Or do I need an F250?
If the F150 is ok, Will the V6 4.6 work alright, or do I need a 5.4 or 5.6 V8?

How big a trailer will you be pulling? I doubt you'll need a 3/4 ton and definitely won't need one when you get here and you're just using it for normal stuff.
I definitely think you can find a decent truck in your budget. Truth be told you probably don't even need to spend $10,000 on it. I'd also go for 4x4. You'll use it here sooner or later. As long as you buy it right it should hold its value well so if you get here and want or need something different you'll be able to do it.
If you go the F150 route you want to go with a v8 for sure. You'll end up with either a 302/5.0, 351/5.8, 4.6 or 5.4. All are good engines and I've been around them all except the 5.4. There are literally millions of trucks running out there with those engines.
If you happen to go 3/4 ton make sure you stay away from the big engines, 460 v8 and the 6.8v10. If you find a gasser 3/4ton truck at a great price there's a good chance it'll have a big engine in it. This happened to me last week.
A Chevy/GM will serve you just as well. I don't have experience with anything past the mid 90's but there are plenty of them out there.
