Got plain black 1911 I was thinking of dressing up a little with a new dura coat finish, anyone ever done this before or seen one that's been done? How well do they hold up?
Here is a review of someone using one of the kits hope this helps you out. If you search the forum and type in duracoat in its various forms you can up with other threads that talk about this also.. Good luck I am thinking about doing this with a .22 I have.
duracoat does not hold up to holster wear that great. leather holsters are not bad but the cheaper plastic friction lock holsters will wear it down pretty fast.
I think it would look good in desert or coyote tan with black grips. At least if you do it yourself you can always give it another layer if it starts to wear down.
Here is a Kimber Clackamas duracoated in FDE. I purchased it this way, so I don't know who did the work. It has held up really well, but I don't carry it, so I don't know about how it would hold up to holster wear.
Crappy pictures don't do it justice. The shiny spots are oil.
