I don't know that lightweight and 1-8x go together. Lightweight and 1-4, sure.
What scope do you have?
Yeah. I have never played with a 1-8x before. I seemed like a decent idea at the time. I think a 2-6, 2.5-7, or 2-7 would probably better suit me. I have two of America's rifle that need to be scoped. I wanted something with lowish low end magnification and thought I'd just try out the 1-8. I went with a 3 Series Crimson Trace: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1020618935?pid=149367 I also went with the wider tube for lower light conditions... Not sure that was the best option. Weight is 22.4 oz. I don't know if it just feels heavy because it's in a smaller package. But it feels pretty heavy in the hand.
I'm most a whitetail hunter (in WV, so rifle is good to go), but would like to hunt some other things, too. Given that I was working yesterday evening until 8:30 or so... It's unlikely that I'll get to do much extra hunting while in grad school.
I'm also considering just a prism scope. Or some actually lightweight option like a holographic red dot with magnifier (I think holographic is more or less needed since I have an astigmatism). I have an aversion to Chinese made optics - not to their quality, but it's a product that I can avoid sending them money directly for it. I'll spare you all my rant about the Chinese government.
Very cool. I saw a review of rifles for under $800, and the Bergara was one of the favorites. I don't recall the exact model. No purchases were made but the Bergara B-14 was the standout.
