A recent thread about what gun would one get on the market today for around $400.00. Now, I do not usually carry service pistols on the street but because of training and Divisions in the shooting sports, I keep a few on hand. This latest review is about my third and latest CZ P10C.https://cz-usa.com/product/cz-usa-p-10-c-optics-ready/. I am not paid for these reviews nor do I get special free guns to try out. Back in the day Glock was the only lightweight polymer service pistol to get and we wrung more than a few dozen Model 17's and 19"s out playing with this new platform. We enjoyed the good parts and communicated with Glock about the bad parts. It took competition in the market to improve on the platform. This CZ P10C is just another one of those plastic copy cats with a few improvements.

Starting out, I believe the street price of the CZ is less money than a Model 19. This gun feels a little heftier in the hand and the grip angle is more in line with my 1911's. be aware though, speaking of the grip, the stippling is very pronounced and sharp. It leaves marks in my hand flesh. This is very good for getting a very good grip on this thing. While I found the action to be better than a Glock, it still is loaded with mush and creep. I was surprised that this new specimen, manufactured on October 25, 2023, had this tough of a trigger. My first two, seemed a little better than this.

After a range workout of about 300 rounds, things like the action are getting worn in and it is good for street carry now. However, since I do a lot of range work, it will be getting some skill set acquired improvements. I plan on using this piece for CCP/SSP Division in IDPA. With the whacky division rules of IDPA, getting a CCP gun that will hold a minimum of 10 rounds and still fit in the box is tough. The rules committee has stacked the odds against a Single Stack Commander or Officer model one may actually carry these days by making a 10 round capacity competitive. Go Figure. They don't want to hear my "Not alive after Five" position on this.

The mags are well built and hold 15 rounds with 2 two round extension baseplates and come flying out of the gun quickly and with force during a reload. This model is optic ready if I wanted to put some electronics on it. The iron sights are fabulous. They are rigid and tall and well marked. There will be no need to change these out. The slide machining is fantastic and this pistol is streamlined very nice. A super large trigger guard area and the trigger sits back closer to the frame with a very quick reset. This gun comes in a nice sturdy case in CZ fashion. I would however like to see manufacturers put the production date on the label. I doubt if they do as it would be harder to play the distributor/retail games with a date stamp. One may wonder why it is important. The manufacturer makes engineering and production changes all the time with these guns. It would be nice to know which one you are actually getting. Anyone listening?

In the box are two additional grip backstraps. It comes with the small and a medium and large is included. Conventional rifling is nice to see and this gun eats lead or jacketed ammo very easily and accurately. The LCI is built into the extractor if one needs one. I was glad to see that CZ did not mill in a visual window in the top of the barrel hood. This is a stupid idea for a Optic Ready Pistol. Every time you fire a round the front glass of your optic gets sprayed with carbon, smoke, lubricant and other crap. What goes on in those R & D meeting? Makes one wonder if they are shooters or wannabees.

So, if one is on a limited budget and wants to get a good work horse of a gun, this will do the job. From an EDC to playing the shooting sports or training to become a better shooter, this will do the job.

    See You on the range

Nice write up trapper. I am kinda of a CZ nut. I actually like the p10c ergos, grip, sights & trigger. I shot the g19 vs. CZ p10c side by side. It was clear that p10c was more accurate than g19. I thought it was a fluke, so I had a random guy shoot both guns to see if he would shoot g19 better vs. P10c. He shot p10c better. There's no doubt p10c is a great gun for the price.

Hard to beat the P10c for the price at the moment, especially if it’s an optics ready version.

I don’t think anything from a reputable company comes close. Best I could find were used G19 MOS’ for $450. Still more than a P10c.

I agree with you on the texture. It's so sparse yet so "attacky" on the skin, I didn't love it, and I love grippy texture. Threw talon grips on mine. Trigger is so good, sights are easy to swap, great gun. And the price you can get them today is just looney tunes.

Similar to my response on the 365 review... my wife held a P10C recently when I realized she really wasn't carrying her firearm often or training. I got her a P10C based on what she held. Its basically been shot as much as her 365, and she loves it as well. I was suprised by the performacne out of the box for the price I paid. Due to the 10C, I ended up getting multiple other CZ (P09, 07, 97B, and a gold digger Shadow 2).
CZ definitely surprised me, and I feel they're priced lower than their performance level. however, I am a bit worried after the Colt Acquisition, due to how their customer service has fallen off...

I personally haven’t been a fan of “compact” handguns. I say that in quotations cause what they call compact ain’t that small anymore with modern day micro 9s. I owned a p10c in the past and couldn’t say anything bad about it. Except the size. With large pecker grabbers. These guns are just too small for me. They have their place, just not for me. If I’m not carrying a micro pistol and want something larger, I’m going full size. I wanted a full size version of this gun but at the time the c model was only available. Now that the f model has been out for awhile, I’ve wanted to get one, just never have.

Make sure you buy one that was "Made in America" Jim.

I like mine as well. Didn't care for the aggressive grip. Bought some rubber Foxx grips and solved the problem. Been on there 2 years now with no issues. Good gun.

I've been hardcore into P10Cs for around 4 years. I made master at IDPA worlds with a gen1 P10C with slide milled by Primary Machine.

The gun is a better glock 19 than the glock 19 in almost every regard.

    -better ergos
    -more efficient mags,
    -better iron sights
    -more robust construction
    -less expensive.
    -way better trigger

I prefer a milled slide to the optics ready version, as the optic sits lower. On the gun I used for competition, I changed all the controls to apex parts, slide release, mag release, trigger, and after having user induced malfunctions with all of them, I ended up just going back to stock. The one exception is the Hyve trigger is an excellent upgrade, and Shield arms makes +4aluminum baseplates that are actually a very tight +5, bumping capacity to 20+1.

On initial release, people complained about the p10c gen 1s mag release being to tight. This is because, in order to make the gun truly ambi, the magazine is held by a tilting center lever that can be depressed by pushing the mag release either way. This lever tended to push the mag up slightly, which made it very difficult to eject a full mag.... until you did it a few times and wore that lever's surface in.

gen 2 and beyond redesigned the mag release to be swappable, rather than truly ambi, and changed the angle of the release's internal geometry to give the shooter more leverage, thus side stepping the problem. The gen 2s I have are also made in America, although I believe some early gen 2s are from the CR.

There is one major weak point in the mechanism of the p10C: the mag release spring. The spring is exposed on the inside of the slide, and rests on a ledge on the mag release lever. This ledge has a very thin vertical lip to retain the spring, and with the action all happening right there, along with fouling, that lip can break or wear down, or the spring can just jump the groove. I've had this happen in matches, once the spring jumps, your slide stop can randomly lock the slide open, and fail to lock it open on last round.

My solution to this weakness is to just add a dab of glue to the spring on the ledge. A touch of locktite, something heat resistant. I can still break the glue when I take the gun that far apart. To be fair the jumping issue seems to only happen when I've put ~10k rounds through the gun and not really cleaned it beyond light lubrication.

    ----------

In going through some photos for this post, I'm remembering some issues I had.

#1, i've had federal syntech flat nose bullets split on the feed ramp and lock the gun up so you have to punch-eject the round. I've seen syntech do this on a number of guns, but the cz is susceptible to it.

#2, the MIM controls can break, as seen in my picture below. The Apex slide release feels sturdier, but I have a tendency to lift that with my weak hand and lock the slide back. While not ideal, sheared controls like that are still functional.

#3, the stock trigger is fine, but if you go to the Hyve, locktite the micro-set screw into the trigger, it can back out.
