This is the way to do it. If they are far apart in terms, MPJ can test the FA market, and find out where the market sets his value.
And the comp (2 RD1 picks) entering a draft that is very, very deep in top-tier WRs, puts the Colts in very good position if some team offers MPJ something crazy that the Colts don't want to match. (Though, the WR depth in the draft is also going to depress the FA WR market value.)
The scuttlebutt seems to be that the two sides are close. The tag primarily keeps MPJ out of the FA market while they get the deal done.Pittman was never going to play anywhere else.
I think he understands that he’s not in that Jamar Chase/Justin Jefferson/Davante Adams tier of wideouts.
He’s not going to reset the market for receivers, but he deserves a really good contract.
Not sure how I feel about this honestly. The human element of the game is part of it.

How long before AI become the refs?
I hope football doesn't become like auto racing. The cars do just about everything themselves now except drive. They've taken about 90% of the human out of it. Just like manual transmissions, there's a certain mystique to rowing gears yourself.
There could perhaps be some contract restructuring?Doing some math with the Colts remaining cap space. Feels like there’s going to be an odd man out.
Julian Blackman
Grover Stewart
Kenny Moore
I’m not convinced that all three will be on the Colts next season.
There could perhaps be some contract restructuring?
If not, given the current/likely free agent market, Blackmon is the likely odd man out here.
There are other possibilities, as well. I've seen Nelson's contract suggested as a candidate for restructuring.Yeah possibly. If/when the Colts get a deal done with Pittman, his cap hit will be different. It’s currently 20-whatever million now. His new deal will have guaranteed money up front and his cap hit will be less. So that’s certainly reasonable.
Nobody did it. I just don’t get it. Three teams in the same division had a chance to steal the second most important player on the SB winning division rival and there doesn’t even seem to be any smoke. Really? No SB contender wanted or had the resources to take a top player from the champs? What do you guys think? The points in this article ring true to me. Will they do it?
“Star defensive tackle Chris Jones is only three days away from having the opportunity to entertain firm contract offers from a team other than the Chiefs. The Chiefs’ rivals should be lining up to sign him.”
“Every AFC West rival should be considering it. The teams that have to deal with the Chiefs in the playoffs should be considering it. The teams that might have to deal with the Chiefs in the Super Bowl also should consider it.”
