I was eating at the Horseshoe Casino near New Albany and thought about going into the casino. When I headed to the entrance I saw "stalls" I would have to go through manned by security. My guess is these were simply a way to count people entering the casino but since I wasn't sure and I don't know Indiana's carry laws in casinos I did not enter. Had I tried to enter and was discovered, would I have only been asked to leave or could I have had legal problems?

It's even illegal for LEO's to carry off duty in the casino and you can be arrested.

That seems to be going a little too far, even for the gun control crowd. If something were to go wrong in a casino and an off duty police officer happened to be playing black jack or whatever, I would think any Casino owner would want to officer to have his weapon available to end the threat.

While I am not a fan of gun free zones, atleast at Casinos they have armed security should the need arise. But again, if a LEO was there and could offer assistance, even better.

Horseshoe has a place to check your firearm before entering the actual casino, and they don't give patrons any grief about it, from my experience. I'm thinking most casinos in the state would at least provide secure storage for you before entering.

The security guards at Horseshoe are not armed. The only person in the casino legally armed is the plainclothes Indiana Gaming Commission officer.

Oops. I carried both of the last two times I went into the casino in Shelbyville.
    Better turn yourself in, bud.

Luckily, this is just an Administrative code. The penalty is :
immediate removal from the riverboat, immediate detention by security personnel, the
imposition of civil penalties, or exclusion under IC 4-33.

So, kinda like taking the "all you can eat buffet" as a challenge. If they don't like it, they can throw you out.

Cliff's note answer. NO you can not carry within the actual casino, HOWEVER they are required by law to provide you with a secure place to 'check' your firearm while you ae in the actual casino. There are several casinos up here in NW Indiana and I have carried in a couple of them when heading to dinner. The key was that I never actually entered into the casino proper The restaurant/s were outside the casino. Serveral however require you to pass through the casino to get to the restaurants, so I avoid them personally. If I had tried to enter the casino I would have had to 'check' my firearm. In fact I was looking at a display that Blue Chips i Michigan City had just inside the doorway but didn't want to go into the casino. The 'guards' said I could go in, but my reply was 'no I can't, not without securing my gun.' They never batted an eye, just directed me to the security office.

The wife and I visited Blue Chip, and I checked my gun. No problems, no sideways glances, nothing. I trusted they would safely store my gun, and they did.

The law on the books in Indiana forbids carry in RIVERBOAT CASINOS.

Not all casinos in Indiana are Riverboat Casinos.

Riverboat casinos have (I think must have by law) secure lockers for patrons to place their firearms in before entry.

Other casinos, Shelbyville, for example, will probably just ask you to leave and store your gun in your vehicle.

I'm surprised it took so long. Only RIVERBOAT casinos are a no go when it comes to Indiana law.

If the casino is land based then you are good to go, but may be asked to leave if seen.

Just another comment to the previous responses; please check your facts before posting that you are absolutely not allowed to carry somewhere.

If you dig into the IAC for the other casinos, you'll find that there is a spot that says they also follow all the rules of IAC whatever. The "other" casinos are under the same IAC rules as the riverboat.
No, I'm not going to look it up again and I don't have it bookmarked.
