Not only did it quadruple, he's getting less due to shrinkflation. So it is worse than it appears on the surface.
Back then he was paying for a pound of bacon. Now he's only getting 12oz. I'd wager lunch that if you also accounted for shrinkflation, its probably closer to a $500 difference, adjusted.
The best part is that after state causes the problem, folks look to state to solve the problem.
