Fully autonomous submarine? Can't wait to hear about someone hacking into it's computer and holding the world for ransom. Wasn't that a 007 movie or something?

I'm guessing that sub is quite noisy and will have an attack sub shadowing it at all times

In a time of crisis, flooding the tubes to launch those autonomous bombs might be the last command her captain ever gives

We were much better off with the good old Mutual Assured Destruction, at least that would have been relatively quick. We outspend the Russians (and everyone else put together) and we get barely operational F-35s. The Littoral ship experiment seems to have failed. The Russians don't have enough money to waste, so they build a relatively simple and yet likely very effective brute force weapon system. Sure it remains to be seen if it operates as designed, but who or what is going to be the testing guinea pig? Is this possibly a Russian "Star Wars Project" equivalent? That didn't really ever succeed militarily either, but sure delivered the bacon to 'the Contractors'.

An autonomous nuclear submarine sounds like one of the worst possible ideals anyone could come up with.

When something goes wrong it gets its self stuck somewhere and captured by opposing forces. When you try to communicate with it, your communications are intercepted or jammed. And all of this is assuming the US doesn't have the brains available to hack into it.
