    A 1911 in 9mm?
That's about like getting a 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A with an automatic transmission.

Funny that you should mention that. I know where there is a numbers matching T/A with an auto transmission sitting. It's been in the same spot for nearly 30 years out in CA. It's a zero rust car that was disassembled for restoration about 35 years ago when my brother in law decided to take a break from the project after getting it back from the being refinished. It's been at least 30 years since that project moved, yet it still sits in his garage. Everyone in the family has tried to buy it off of my sister (it was her car originally) with no luck. She thinks that it's worth a hundred grand as it sits. Maybe when finished, but it needs a good 50 grand to do that. So, it still sits out there, protected but untouched.

I've got a Commander size 45 and a 9mm. The nice thing about the 9 is how easy the slide racks back.

I do have a Rock Island Baby Rock, it a great little gun. When I do buy a full size 1911, its in 45acp. It just feels right...

Ideally I would like a Wiley Clap commander in 9mm they are listed on Lipseys website but to date no one has them in 9mm. So do I just settle and get a 45 acp? Seems like the 45 is getting harder to find as well.

    "Settle", "45"... huh?

Only worth that much if she puts a manual transmission and Hurst shifter in, though. ;)

Maybe not the best choice in words, but I think accurate. I really would like a 9mm for the following reasons.

    It has a lightweight frame
I am guessing it would be a lot of fun at the range
9 mm is a bit cheaper to shoot

So too me if I am not getting all the boxes checked it would be settling for something that is not exactly what I want. Its not often you can get everything you want in anything but some times its possible.

Depending on the year. It might be worth something completed but as is not so much.

I have had a 1911 in 9mm. Meh. It was for the spouse. She prefers the .45 ACP pieces.
I will refer to the challenger/auto post. Meh.

Going to go against everyone here. I say go 9mm. I love my 9mm 1911s. They are a bit finicky to get running right but super fun at the range. I had a lightweight .45 S&W Performance Center. Very accurate and fast cycling gun, but it beat me to death. Got to the point I didn't practice with it like I should. 9mm no problem.

Not everyone.:) I've owned and shot everything from a .22 to a 454 Casull and I still shoot my .44 mag with full house loads. Sure, it's a blast to hammer away with those big bore handguns.

But when it comes to spending time at the range practicing, learning how to shoot better or competing, I'm taking my 9mm Range Officer every time!

Maybe with enough time and practice I would have gotten better with my .45's but when I shot the 9 better with the first mag than after I had hundreds of rounds through the .45's, I knew what I had to do for me to be able to enjoy the sport of shooting and possibly one day gaining some actual proficiency, lol.

Only comment I'll make is that i've never had any issues with mine, knock on wood.

Yup. She thinks that she's sitting on a hundred grand as is. Realistically, it is probably closer to 18 to 24 grand in it's current state and would take a good 50 grand to finish it right. That's edging close to the break even point on that car with the slush box in it. It will never sell while she's alive though. She keeps telling people that she has a T/A but fails to mention that it's really a disassembled T/A with some reassembly required.

I used to turn my nose up at 9mm 1911s. My thinking was: Why? Why buy a 9mm 1911 when there are better platforms out there for 9mm and better calibers for a 1911. Then I bought a 9mm Colt O1992 last fall and have to admit that it's a fun gun to run. I don't know that I'll add any more to the family, but I do like the one I have. Even when I'm shooting the .45 1911s, I still enjoy sending some 9mm down range with the Colt. It has a good old comfortable feel to it, yet is a lot cheaper to shoot them my other 1911s.
