    Thanks everyone. I was using a Canon 7D + 500mm f4 lens shooting from my car. The owl was about 30 yards off.

    edit: I have found one can approach wildlife closer in a car than on foot. If I had been on foot at that distance the owl would have flown right away.

    Here is a pic Dan captured of me shooting my Smith & Wesson 629 Backpacker in .44 magnum.
    This revolver has a 2 1/2 inch ported barrel. I was shooting full magnum loads.

    Nice photo wish while I was there I would have seen one. I have seen alot of wildlife during my time in the military but never an owl.
