I have an M1A SOCOM 16 and I love it but looking back I kinda wish i would have spent the extra money on an AR10. The only reason being is the availability of spare parts and the fact that I'm used to shooting the AR platform. But i was able to get about a dozen new 20 round mags for the M1A at $10 a piece so that's a plus
I have both. I have 2 M1As and 1 LR-308. As far as long range work goes, the LR-308 wins hands down(I love the M1A though). You have to give credit where credit is due. As far as iron sights go, then I would go with the M1A. I have my Standard M1A in a VLTOR chassis and I am going to put it in a head-to-head long range match against the LR-308. For close-in work I have a M1A Socom in a wood stock with just iron sights along with 25rd CMI mags
I paid $10 for mine...well after taxes it was probably $400 won it at the friends of the NRA of SW Mich.
I'd go with the M1A. Mine is a "standard" from Springfield Armory. If you do go with the M1A, they claim for general usage that the 18" barrel is the one to get then the full size then the scout. But it depends on what you want to use it for.
Very nice.... is that an Armalite? I had an AR10 many years ago and it was a great rifle. I have been looking at the Colt .308 but in the current climate it will have to wait.

Right now I'm building a DPMS 308 AR, I would say if you are familiar with the AR platform then I would go for the ar 10 if not its up to your discretion
