    I've had the same issue with my AKs. My first brass deflector was made from coat hangar wire and window screening, then I took a 4" x 12" piece of kydex and fashioned it into a brass deflector. Fits all my AKs and knocks the brass down at my feet.
    I don't think AKs feel comfortable with brass in them. I give my WASR steel Wolf.
    I also make it sleep outside in the summer. I've found it brings us closer when we do spend time together.

    I also nail people with spent rounds. I feel bad, but atterbury doesn't have the clip on screens like huntington
