Oh, I get it. But archery guys were making fun of my 30 yard cross bow shot this season! Said it wasn’t fair, too easy with a crossbow. I say if you are about one ethic kill shot you know will 100% produce a quick clean kill, don’t matter what you use. I can get behind a 500 yard shot. But I agree with you, anyone who does it just to brag, or begins to walk in or otherwise risk only injuring the animal is an animal themselves.
I've had the misfortune to be around archery guys like that too. I once had a couple of them giving me crap for practicing and practicing only at 50+ yards with my compound when I still shot it. They had no understanding that actual 50 yard shots on game are common among western archery hunters or that Fred Bear regularly attempted 60+ yard shots on game with his recurves. Just to be clear I'm not against long range hunting, if someone has the gear and the skill and the only opportunity is 4-5-600 yards I don't have a problem with them taking the shot. What I object to is such a shot being a first resort instead of a last.
