I hate to put E-Mail FWDs in Here But....

    A Soldier's View on MJ's Death

This is written by a young man serving his third tour of duty in Iraq.
Thought you might find his take on the Michael Jackson news interesting.

    Okay, I need to rant.

I was just watching the news, and I caught part of a report on Michael
Jackson. As we all know, Jackson died the other day. He was an
entertainer who performed for decades. He made millions, he spent
millions, and he did a lot of things that make him a villian to many
people. I understand that his death would affect a lot of people, and I
respect those people who mourn his death, but that isn't the point of my
    rant.

Why is it that when ONE man dies, the whole of America loses their minds
with grief. When a man dies whose only contribution to the country was
to ENTERTAIN people, the Amercian people find the need to flock to a
memorial in Hollywood, and even Congress sees the need to hold a "moment
    of silence" for his passing?

Am I missing something here? ONE man dies, and all of a sudden he's a
freaking martyr because he entertained us for a few decades? What about
all those SOLDIERS who have died to give us freedom? All those Soldiers
who, knowing that they would be asked to fight in a war, still raised
their hands and swore to defend the Constitution and the United States
of America. Where is their moment of silence? Where are the people
flocking to their graves or memorials and mourning over them because
they made the ultimate sacrifice? Why is it when a Soldier dies, there
are more people saying "good riddence," and "thank God for IEDs?" When
did this country become so calloused to the sacrifice of GOOD MEN and
WOMEN, that they can arbitrarily blow off their deaths, and instead,
throw themselves into mourning for a "Pop Icon?"

I think that if they are going to hold a moment of silence IN CONGRESS
for Michael Jackson, they need to hold a moment of silence for every
service member killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. They need to PUBLICLY
recognize every life that has been lost so that the American people can
live their callous little lives in the luxury and freedom that WE, those
that are living and those that have gone on, have provided for them.
But, wait, that would take too much time, because there have been so
many willing to make that sacrifice. After all, we will never make
millions of dollars. We will never star in movies, or write hit songs
that the world will listen too. We only shed our blood, sweat and tears
so that people can enjoy what they have.

Sorry if I have offended, but I needed to say it.
Remember these five words the next time you think of someone who is
    serving in the military;

    "So that others may live..."

    Isaac

I like the idea of moment of silence for fallen soldiers. This would serve two purposes:

    1) Pay tribute to the sacrifice

    2) Keep them from passing all these rediculous new laws.

    Great post!

I appreciate the commitment that every soldier makes to secure life, liberty and the pursiut of happiness for the people of the USA. I place little value on the enticements of entertainment its just entertainment(distraction to real life). I told my children to value impact of lives of people who actually has an effect on their lives. Family, neighbors, friends and Soldiers that live in harms way for our way of life.

I agree. I do not see the point of mourning over a Pop star let alone help LA to pay for the memorial sevice. I rather to put my money to a good use for the fallen soldiers.

Thank you for the post! I agree wholeheartedly! :patriot::patriot:

I say so what if MJ made a few good songs. I'd much rather put my support into the people that fight for our freedom to live how we live everyday. Especially when I do have alot of family members that have served in the past, and one serving right now. Along with other friends. So to our men and women in the armed forces I salute you! :patriot: May God be with you, may he bless you, and keep you all the way through!

I am tired of all the celebrity worshiping...if I, a normal died tomorrow, what special attention and memorial service would I get? I deserve a lot less then those that actually sacrificed(active duty or Killed In Action) a lot so people can say what they please with no repercussion, including those who puts down our soldiers and country. This is absolute rubbish!

I have always said that it is just backwards from what it should be in America.

The movie stars and entertainers should be paid about $30,000 a year and our sevice men and women, Police, firemen, the ones that put thier lives on the line everyday need to be making the big bucks.
    Rant off.

That is the truth. The sad thing is they have so much coverage, because it's what people want. If people did not care, then it would not be all over the news every day. It's just not a few people. Too many people have had easy lives, and forget that men and women died so they could have their good lives. Maybe they should be sent back in time to the revolutionary war. Then maybe they would have a different perspective. Not saying you have to be a Veteran to be a patriot. Just some people take life for granted. They forget men, and women stand ready 24/7 to defend liberty. We need more patriots in this country. :patriot:

What the people want??...... not this "person".

They are still playing bs about this guy, and BREAKING NEWS segments
    every little while.
I actually saw one woman blaming his death and his problems (mental)
on all of "US". That's right... because we wanted him to perform we were
the cause of his behavior. We drove him to this end. He was NOT responsible. (throws coffee cup at TV) :xmad:
