I purchased 5k pulled 5.56 tracer bullets to reload. I was sifting through them and this one stuck out to me. It is almost 1/4" longer than the others. Sure it might stay lit for a further distance but has anyone else ever seen this and wouldn't it change the grains, accuracy, and velocity of the round?

Sorry for the quality or lack there of in the photo.

Did you weigh the longer bullet? It would definitely be heavier I think. I wouldn't load it up though, it would take up more room in the brass to get the correct OAL. That in turn would create a higher pressure round, probably an unsafe pressure.

I loaded a few the other day. I seated them to magazine length and backed off one full grain. The few I shot showed pressure signs so I backed off another half grain. I didn't get a chance to get the chrony out but after I reduced my charge 1.5 grains I didn't show any pressure signs. I only shot a few, less than 15 all together. Hopefully I'll do some more by next week.

Can you post some better pics of the tip and the base of the bullet? From what I have read on arfcom, the longer bullet that you have is may not be a tracer, but the new super green bullet --- m855a1. The 855a1 is a solid copper bullet with a steel tip...

AFIAK the 855a1 is for .mil only. Some folks have managed to get a few mixed in with pulldowns.....
