I have developed a 45/70-1.8 load for Indiana deer for my 45/70 Guide Gun (Thank you INGunOwners for all the input and help!), but now I saw somewhere that if the barrel stamp still lists a non-legal cartridge (such as 45/70 Government) the gun would STILL be illegal for Indiana deer even if used with the legal 45/70-1.8 rounds. Does anybody know if this is true? Thanks!

Your not the first person to ask this question and the answer is no, it's not true. As long as the cartridge meets the legal specs it's legal. If that were true I'd be a law breaker!

I've been taking whitetail in Indiana with factory load .45-70's for years now, and I'm still legal.

I'm using a Thompson Center Contender in a pistol format.

No, it does not matter what, if anything, is marked on the barrel.

Heck, you could have something marked 20mm and still be perfectly legal.

All that matters are the dimensions if the case. (And being sure you're following the proper guidelines for handgun vs long gun)
