I always wonder if gun-related stories from anywhere in Indiana have an INGO member connection. Probably no way to tell...but it's still a curiosity.

:(Awful, that poor child is gonna have a hard time once it sinks it what he did.

WTF was that dad thinking:xmad: If you have weapons (of all kinds!!) in the house and children you have to be 200% vigilant in keeping them secure. :xmad::xmad:

another idiot with a firearm. IF YOU HAVE KIDS, LOCK YOUR WEAPONS UP!!!!
no ifs, ands or buts. If you want one quickly accessible, at least pull the mag out and never one in the chamber...unless you want to add to the statistics.

I don't say that you have to lock up everything but if a gun can be fired by a 3 year old you certainly don't leave it in reach of a 3 year old. Very sad, just glad that we don't have a dead, innocent 3 year old instead which is how these things usually turn out.

There are way too many people with guns today who have no business having them. As responsible gun owners, it is in our best interest to find an answer. Those who should have guns, those who have the mental maturity and discipline to responsibly have them, will soon lose them because of the idiots in our midst like this loser in Salem. A scary percentage of those with access to handguns should not have them.

The solution? It's a difficult one. It can't be age-based, as there are 18 year-olds who can competently possess a gun. Education? Not a good barometer, either. We as responsible gun owners need to take the lead in devising a better way to determine who can legally possess a handgun. We need to do this before it is done for us and in a manner that is not what we want or in our best interest.

Why do you single out handguns? Good intentions suck..........don't need that road with another layer of asphalt.

Stupid guy A meets idiot woman B and they have exponentially F'd up child C.

Until only smart, honest and responsible people are the only ones breeding, we're hosed.

It is and will always be a people problem, not a gun problem.

Wow, just had a conversation at the range early this morning with a buddy who has a 2 and 4 year old about the potential for something like this happening. We talked about how to be certain it would not happen in his home.

When my children were young, my guns were locked up except for the ones on my person.

Guns should not be left around unattended.

    Sad situation.

This. A $30 lock box or keeping it on his person could have prevented an accident such as this. I said accident but really negligence on the part of the gun owner.
