Been looking at a couple different options on zeroing my ar. Vigilance elite talks a lot about the pros of a 36 yard zero and also make targets for it. Just wondering on what everybody else’s thought and what there zero is

    I use a 50 yard zero. I also like the 25.

With a 50 yard, on a man sized target, i put the dot under the clavical notch. If a man sized target is about as wide through the shoulders as my 4moa dot, i turn the dot off, switch to irons and put the top of the post a hair above the shoulders.

Huh, never thought about that, but just checked and 25 m is 27.34 yds.
I shot IHMSA pistol silhouette for years. We shot big bore at 50, 100, 150, and 200 meters. A rule of thumb I always used was to add 10% to meters to get yards. It is not precise, but get you pretty close.

100 meters ~ 110 yards, but exactly 109.3613 (thru online conversion)

It really depends on the range you're primarily going to be shooting.

A 50 yard zero is pretty versatile and easy to do with a red dot.

If you only shoot out to 200 then a 100 yard zero is really good, can be kind of hard to get with a red dot depending.

I really dislike the 25 yard zero.

Zero distance depends on what you are shooting and the distances. I have a couple 22lr rifles that I zero at 50 yards. We shoot steel out to 200 meters, beginning at 50 yards. We adjust elevation for the further distances. You need around 30moa to go from 50 yards to 200 meters, depending on the ammo.

    I find this discussion interesting:

Here is a ballistics calculator you can use to creat a chart for your caliber, ammo, sight setup, etc.

You can find the info you need on most manufacturers web sites.

Y'all are speaking a different language with your ARs than we do. All our centerfire rifles, ARs included, are zeroed at 200 yards regardless of caliber. It's all about the type of shooting one does. There's no right, wrong, or better. "Meters" is just a word used to confuse the issue. :)

This allows no hold under or over for 25M to 300M for center of man. You also can engage a head size target out to 200M.

IMO the 25M sucks you have to hold under at 200M among other issues. We are talking AR’s not precision rifles. Good out to about 300M for a man size target.

You can use a 25 yard target to get 100 yard zero. Can’t get more stupid proof than this.3AB86AC7-0506-4BD9-A7D3-EF77AD5FD3F9.jpeg

I zero my personal AR at 30 yards. As I am use to that mechanical off set at closer ranges from my agency days.

As a retired schmuck a long distance or even something outside of 50 yards is a very slim possibility and just not going to happen. Factor in the majority of LE Sniper shots at 70 yards or less folks get too wrapped around the axel on 200-300 or more.

If one wants to be proficient at range have at it it’s always a good idea to maintain proficiency but to preach like it’s a probability….not really.

I haven't seen this target before. That would make getting a 100y zero with a red dot really simple.
