Yet another ingenious solution to an all but nonexistent problem.Just saw this. Winchester released a new rimfire cartridge. OAL of a 22lr but with a non heeled bullet.

Yup. Looks like a other experiment for the ash heap to me. If they'd made it to fit existing rifles, it would have a chance. Stupid.Watched the report about this on the outdoor channel i think wednesday. Wasn't impressed with it after researching more info. Everything was supposed to be 22lr components but won't work in a 22lr rifle. What's next, a 46acp or a 9.5mm cartridge. Anything to make money and gun nuts will always blow money on it. I didn't pay much attention on the round cost, but probably alot more than 22lr, just like 380 costs much more than 9mm which makes no sense being 380 is just a slightly shorter 9mm round.
Given the price of some high end match 22lr, it might warrant consideration if the accuracy is there. For a 22LR competitor / replacement however; it will almost surely come down to cost per round with accuracy a secondary issue. Thus the rationale for using as many 22LR components and processes as possible.
Personally I think it would be good for the industry to move to a more modern cartridge design, but I don't believe there is any price elasticity to get there.

Your old standards were all new fads at one time. I'm sure plenty old timers were saying "I'll stick my trusty old cap and ball thank you."And the new FAD cartridge of the month meme continues on giving.
The last one was that 8.6 whatever some on this forum gush on about.
I will stick to my old standards thank you.
Then 20 years later... "These whipper-snappers with their fancy-schmancy smokeless powder! I read in the paper that stuff will blow up yer Peacemaker."Your old standards were all new fads at one time. I'm sure plenty old timers were saying "I'll stick my trusty old cap and ball thank you."
