Earthquake is not my Doomsday scenario but it sure doesn't help matters.

We are planning for no electricity or gas service, so as long as we don't have the house caving in on top of us, we're gtg.

Saying that, we are prepped for a tornado but now we have to think about reactions if the earth is shakng under our feet...

    Upgraded one to 2.7.

Either of these are BARELY noticeable. Especially the 2.7.

    What will I do?

Same thing I did before. Absolutely nothing.

The main thing would be if the New Madrid fault goes off again like it did in 1812. There's not a lot you can do except prep like you would for total economic collapse and hope your house is not badly effected. Water, food, medical supplies and ammo. Oh, and pampers if you're expecting Bounty Hunter to move in with you.:D

I'd worry about a quake that hits the St.Louis metro area more than one around here. You get one that is bad and takes out major roadway bridges and railroad bridges and SHTF will happen, on what scale who knows.

Ok. You're not concerned. I get that.

What would a quake greater than 6.0 cause you to do?

Not that we are in line for that..: Indiana

Yes, 6+ would suck for a lot of places. Especially if it was from the New Madrid Fault system. But that could also depend on WHERE in the fault system the EQ occurred, both from a latitude standpoint and from a depth standpoint.

A 6+ mag. near-surface EQ located near Evansville would be bad for Indiana - obviously.

A 6+ mag. deep EQ near Evansville MIGHT be harmful.

River valleys are generally bad places to locate structures if you're anticipating a large EQ.

I have earthquake coverage on my home owners insurance, it's only like $45 a year. Never thought of it until I remarried 5 years ago. Wife is from Seattle and insisted on earthquake insurance.

Wonder if they're also offered volcano insurance out there?

Seattle's only a few seconds from being vaporized on any given day...

EDIT: On another note: Plate tectonics and Volcanology have always fascinated me...
