Here is my new Kimber 1911 Stainless II. I added a few goodies.

    . Meprolight Tru-Dot Night Sights
    . DogGrips Rattlesnake Grips
. Smith & Alexander Arched Extended Magwell

Thanks to AllanM for his help installing the magwell and sights.

The grips on the Smith were too large. So I replaced them with VZ Gatorbacks

Mrs. VERT's first 1911. She liked her Walther PK380 but like most .380s it tended to be a bit picky about what brand of ammo it would run reliably. She moved up to an M&P Pro Series but it just did not agree with her. She shoots the 9mm 1911s very well and after a bit of soul searching decided to upgrade. We have to make sure this gun gets a few rounds through it before going on nightstand/purse duty. The 1911 in 9mm is a great choice for the ladies. Mrs. VERT has arthritis and the heavy gun has light recoil. Also the 12 pound recoil spring is easier for her to rack the slide.

I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was 24 years old, well over half my life ago. I tend to agree with Mrs. VERT on the gun choice and the caliber. I've got several 9mm 1911 pistols and they are sheer pleasure to shoot. A couple in 38 Super that are a bit snappier. And a whole bunch in 45acp.

But when it comes to my Arthritis issues I stay away from 40 S&W, 10mm and 357 Magnum pistols. The recoil impulse of those rounds seems to be too 'snappy' for my arthritis riddled wrists and causes pain for a couple days.

Good luck to Mrs. VERT with her disease control. If she doesn't already have a good arthritis specialists then get her to one quickly. There is a lot they can do to manage the disease and slow or halt the joint degeneration.

    Happy Birthday to me!

Finally got around to picking up one of these babies. So far I like it as much as I thought I would.

I finally took a decent photo of the latest 1911 in the collection. I picked this up last month and have many trouble free rounds down the pipe so far. It's a Sig Railed Nickel in .45 ACP. The grips are G10 and really feel good. They are deeply grooved and are comfortable, yet really grip well.

I don't remember ever posting a photo of my Kimber. It's a Kimber Compact Stainless II in .45 ACP. I've had this gun for several years and it looks quite beat up, but it shoots very well. This gun has probably spent more time in my holster than just about any other single gun. I just replaced the grips this week with a set of double diamond grips I picked up down at The Outdoorsman. I also swapped in a flat FPS from EGW and like how the gun feels with that. The front strap has a bit of Talon rubber grip tape added to help remove some of the slipperyness the stock frame has.

That's pretty close to mine, too. If they supported the 9x23 Win. cartridge I would have placed my order and started to wait, but alas they don't.

The flanged barrel makes a big difference in felt recoil - much more so than even the bull barrel to me.

My idea of the perfect 1911.

Thanks. It's is exactly the way I would have had one built, right down to the 3# trigger, other than the ambi safety. I've had my nose to the ground for a year or so looking for one so it proves the adage that "all things come to those who wait"... Only downside is that it puts my T3 with the Ion bond finish on the market but maybe that will be what someone else has been looking for the last year. :)
I now also understand the "old school" idea about a gold front bead.. I see it even better than a fiber optic and it had it's maiden voyage yesterday at the new range in Avon putting several in the same hole, just as the test target shows it's capable of. Life IS good!
