      I know this won't be a new suggestion around here, many members carry a similar rig, but if you're looking for an alternative to the 9mm, I carry a S&W Model 60 (.357) loaded with Remington +P 158 Grain LHPs. Being left handed, I carry in my left front jeans pocket, with an inside the pocket...

      What rifle cartridge and rifle to get?

      As already mentioned, the Remington 770 would be a good choice for an all-around rifle. The most versatile caliber to get would probably be a 30-06, but for "plinking", I agree with the choice of a .223 something. But, like others, I can't immediately come up with a good suggestion under $350...

      Best Knife Under $100

      As pointed out in this thread, there's a lot of good knives under $100. This one is my personal favorite... http://www.benchmade.com/products/556 (Excellent, non-slip grip for a small knife. I bought mine at Bass Pro, several years ago.)
