      Best lubricant?

I use Tetra Gun Grease or Lucas grease, whichever is handy at the time. I don't think it matters much for shotgun, as long as it is a decent grease. The parts being greased do not have much movement.

      Caliber Consolidation?

Years ago, I shot a buddy's Merkle 28 gauge SxS. It was very nice. A few years ago another buddy was selling some guns for his neighbor. I picked up a Remington 11/48 in 28 gauge. It's a fun little gun. The next day I shot skeet with it and hit 23/25 the first time out. NICE! The moral of the...

      Caliber Consolidation?

I never thought about reducing the number of cartridges. I know that some pick certain guns so they limit the number of cartridges they have. I usually pick my firearm/cartridge combo based on a competition or purpose I need/want. Below is a list of my cartridges. I do reload for all these CF...

      What's a good 9mm competition pistol?

Find a Steel Challenge match near you, take what handgun(s) you have, and try it out. You will most likely enter production or limited class. Don't need anything fancy to try any of the pistol competitions if you can see iron sights good enough. When I shoot CF in competitions, I usually use a...

      Gun Competitions

THIS. I always tell shooters new to competition to try Steel Challenge first. Dan has covered the reasons quite well and shootersix also makes the case for SC. One of the biggest issues new shooters have in Steel Challenge is they try to shoot too fast and end up missing quite a bit. Get a good...

      Pellet traps?

Take a cardboard box. Toward the back, hang an piece of carpet attached on top but unattached at the bottom. In the front, hang the target. The carpet will swing when hit. The pellet will stopp and fall to the bottom of the box. This works great for BBs too, and you could collect the BBs and...

      Reloading shells?

With current component costs, you may not save much money. You might even have issues finding powder and/or primers. The big plus for me is tailoring the loads to the type of shooting. I like loading 7/8oz loads of #9 for skeet w/ very light recoil. For trap; 1oz loads w/ #8 or #7 1/2 shot...

      Rimfire Sporter 2023

In 2021, my friends and I shot both Perry and Atterbury. I liked Atterbury, but my buddies like the "tradition" of Perry. We were to shoot Atterbury last year, but I got covid and could not go. We went to Perry this year. It is not what it once was, but still had a good time and ate at Jolly...

      Rimfire Sporter 2023

Nice shooting. Glad you got to shoot. The weather there is crazy, but there is always perch at Jolly Roger's. I was there Mon thru Fri with 5 friends shooting the pistol matches. Wed was 22 day. The 1st relay shot in the rain. The 2nd relay shot 10 shots and the match was stopped. Coast Guard...

Ranges that allow holster draw and fire

I run the pistol league at Blythe's in Valpo. We shoot from early September thru May. Most of our courses of fire include drawing from a holster. The only cost is the range fee and your ammo. If you want to shoot Steel Challenge, center fire guns draw from a holster. North Porter County...

      Ruger Max 9

If you do not have access to comparing handguns in person (always best), try this website. It gives a great side-by-side comparison. Also, I have heard good things about the new Taurus semi-autos. The GX4 is a good one to look at. I have the Sig 365. The GX4 is close in size, but a good less...

When you're browsing the classifieds for guns, which brands/ types do you ignore?

I don't look in the classifieds often. When I do look, I check out things that might interest me. It's not that I'm skipping things I don't like.

      1911 sear springs etc

That's fine, but you can use this as a guide to get the weight for each spring where you want it. I have used that method to tune several bullseye 1911s. They need to be at least 3.5 lbs. They give an example of the weight for each leg of the spring for a 3 1/2 lb trigger pull. Just extrapolate...

      1911 sear springs etc

Here is a good article by Brownells: 2½ lb. Trigger Pull by: Jack Weigand I mostly use it for the section that details how to adjust the sear spring. It helps get the right balance of the disconnector and sear legs of the sear spring.
