I tried this method and it was pretty amazing. I tried it on a smaller unseen part first then was so pleased I did the whole rifle. My rifle was not as rusty as these rifles. It is also fun to do.

An interesting question on the 03 renewal form was "How many firearms have you purchased with your license?"
I guess they are checking to see if you are acting like a full 01.
There seems to be a lot of interest in buying M1 Garands so maybe a thread to help those who may want to buy a non CMP Garand.
Feel free to add to the list.
I'll start it off.
1. Take someone who has M1 Garand experience with you.
2. Watch for welded receivers - haven't heard about this...
I wasn't looking for anything special. The M1 Garands seemed to be going for $100+ what you can get them from the CMP. I did see some 1903s and 1903A3s that looked nice in the $575 - $675 price range.
+1 on doing a better job of keeping the vendors from pushing the tables out into the aisles.
I like a 50/50 mix of pure tung and linseed oil. I could show you a photo of my test board of 2"x2" walnut test squares but I wouldn't want to bore anyone.
I would guess you would probably have to have it parkerized to clear up the scuff marks. I have done about 15 rifles and pistols and every once in awhile you will get one that has a mark or area that maybe wasn't clean when it was parkerized. We have tried to buff and rub the areas out but...
bbbas55,
i am curious did you list you ssn on the application? i think it is listed as optional on the order form. i had one that got delayed with no ssn and the other order went right through. don't know if that would cause a delay but it did seem to stop an order of mine.
any issues...
I use a 50/50 mix of pure tung oil (PTO) and boiled linseed oil (BLO). It seems to work well. Some people say that using PTO will turn the stock a reddish tint after X amount of oil being applied. I have tried that but never saw any change.
I had a new stock from the cmp and I had to sand...
My nephew was rear ended at a stop light 3 or 4 years ago while picking up his girlfriend at IU. When the IU cop arrived he asked him if he had any weapons (for some reason) and my nephew said yes he had a pistol under the seat but had his permit. The cop took the pistol and said you aren't...
I shot in their D-Day Garand event and also the Carbine match. Both were great fun and everyone was friendly.
I know they are a very busy club but it would be nice for them to host a M1 for Vets Match.
Go to the Indiana War Memorial downtown. Lots of neat historic items on display about Indiana from pre-statehood to Enduring Freedom. They also have a nice selection of military weapons to look at too.
